View Full Version : Effects visible when user doesn't have LoS on area

Not sure if this is a bug or by design.. I thought effects layers are hidden when a player can't see them, the "adjust color" fx layer is still visible... In this case, I'm adding water to the room. You don't see the water effects, but you do see the blue I used to tint it, giving away that there is something in that area. I checked other effects layers such as blizzard and clouds, and they all appear without LoS as well and can impact the whole map... is there any way to get a localized effects layer that can only be seen when the player can see it?
Although some may make sense, like the blizzard showing up everywhere on a map, there are arguments where it shouldn't be in case you're using the blizzard effect for something else and you've masked out an area for that.
If you look at my screenshot, you'll see the color f/x which is obvious, but the question is about all effects and interaction with visibility and LoS.

It might be best to zip up your campaign and post a link to here for the developer looking at these issues can replicate the issue you are seeing.

I can replicate this on any map with line of sight and lighting. Add any fx layer to a map; then add the fx mask and then cut a hole in the mask. The area that you open in the mask is visible to any token on the map irrespective of LoS. I'm suspecting that the fx isn't really meant to be used along with occluders. But I could be wrong on that.

We ask for image related issues like this for campaigns with the issue already there. Helps in replication and seeing the exact conditions.

Ok. When I get home tonight, I will create a brand new campaign and create an fx layer for you to see the results so that it will be easy for you to load up and reproduce.
Knowing that Zacc is seeing the same thing on his various campaigns would seem like its a larger issue (or not).
SuperTeddy, what's the expectation for fx and occluders? If it's meant to block them, then this is a bug.. If it's not meant to block them, then it's "as expected". Maybe it's a combination of both.

I'm just relaying my marching orders related to image related reports to help the developer, which might be Carl in this case. It's not my focus and I have tapped Moon to check on this and respond. Just trying to help my fellow devs since I have eyes on the forum more than the others.

No worries.. I'll get ya what you need.. just can't do it at work right now. It's always better to help the devs if you want the devs to help you! :)

Yeah, this sounds like a real bug. I'll take a look at it soon and maybe I can have it fixed by the time John gets it submitted.

LOL, It's a good day for me when my devs have solutions for bugs before I have a chance to write them up :)

I've added to the bug tracking system for @pindercarl to review.
