View Full Version : Bug: Radial menu entries on the diagonals are blurry

It appears that radial menu items on the diagonals (locations 2, 4, 6, and 8) are quite a bit blurrier than items on the orthogonals (1, 3, 5, 7). For the most part this isn't noticeable because the usual radial icons are so large, but for more detailed icons it is obvious and distracting.

Also interesting, it's not just the icons themselves that are blurry, the background icon is blurry as well, so something the position of the two graphics is causing the texture to be blurred.

I discovered this while working on an extension that includes higher detailed icons, but have attached an image showing the issue with a built-in icon (the hex grid icon). I've also attached an extension that shows off the exact issue. If you load the extension then right click on the chat pane the radial menu will have 8 entries with the same icon, and it's pretty clear that they aren't rendered the same.

What is your screen resolution? Do you have a display scaling factor set in the O/S? What about your FG ScaleUI setting?

My screen resolution is 3440 x 1440 and it's at 100% scale factor. FG was taking up 2111 x 1400 pixels on my screen when I took the screenshot (though it occurs no matter how much of the screen FG takes up) and is at a ScaleUI of 100.

I can confirm, that this behavior is not tied to resolution as far as I can tell. When I started to work on my theme I did so at 1920x1080px resolution. Later I upgraded to a QHD display at 2560 x 1440px. Now I'm working at a resolution of 5120x1440px.
In all instances the blurred icons remain. This seems to be solely related to the radial menu whatsoever and happens regardless of any scale settings.

I also made sure to use a "pixel perfect" approach, that aims to not have line weight values that would be hard to render by lower resolution displays.

Sorry for never bringing this up, I had thought of it as a minor annoyance, so I didn't bother.

I do see differences in the rendering based upon location. I'm wondering if it is an anti-aliasing effect. Attached is what is look like to me. Probably have to wait for one of the developers to respond.

As you can see, with my theme the same effect happens.

It is probably an anti-aliasing effect based on the radial menu position calculations. I've added to our bug tracking, but it's a fairly low priority item at this point.
