View Full Version : Removal of an effect on a short rest

Good day.

I am running a 5e campaign using fantasy grounds unity and one of the characters has the Healer feat. The feat allows: As an action, you can spend one use of a healer's kit to tend to a creature and restore 1d6 + 4 hit points to it, plus additional hit points equal to the creature's maximum number of Hit Dice. The creature can't regain hit points from this feat again until it finishes a short or long rest.

I have set up an ability effect in the action tab with two functions, the first to heal the character and the second to place a description on the combat tracker that states he has been healed (so they cannot heal more than once during a short rest).

What I would like is for that effect to disappear off of the combat tracker when I hit short rest. I have tried changing the duration to "1 Day" and "1 Hour
" but it is not removed. The Expend field is "Never". I have attached two images to show what I am doing.

I have scoured the boards to find out what I have done wrong but I cannot find the answer. I am assuming it is something simple but I can't figure it out.

Effects aren't removed on short or long rests automatically. You can use the menu option Delete Effects > Clear Expiring effects at the bottom left of the CT to remove any effects which have a number of rounds left to run. Note that if you give an effect a duration of 1 or more hours then this won't count as an expiring effect unless you convert the hour into rounds (so 3600 rounds for 1 hour). You can also right click on the next round button at the bottom right of the CT to advance rounds which will count down effect durations. Once again it will only count down effects which have a duration in rounds. It won't do anything for an effect which has a duration of hours or days.

Alternatively you can simply delete them directly in the Combat Tracker.

Thank you for the quick response. I knew it was something simple that I was missing. I have never used the "delete effects" action in the menu of the combat tracker. So easy now.

The "Better Combat Effects" extension adds the following that you can add to effects (and many many more very useful things):

Rest

NOREST (-) Actor will not gain the benefit of a short or long rest. Note: Will not prevent the actor from rolling Hit Dice
NORESTL (-) Actor will not gain the benefit of a long rest. Note: Will not prevent the actor from rolling Hit Dice
RESTS (-) Remove effect when the Actor takes a short rest
RESTL (-) Remove effect when the Actor takes a short or long rest
