View Full Version : Updates not working from the main UI on MacOS 13.0 (Ventura)

This morning I upgraded my MacBook Air M1 to MacOS 13.0. I just launched FGU (4.3.0) and the 'Check For Updates' was highlighted. I clicked it and nothing happened. Rebooted and tried again. Nothing. I then tried to manually start the Updater and got an OS message that said the Updater can't be opened. Nothing in the *_NEW folder would run.
I was able to run FGUpdaterEngine directly and perform the update - the Check button is no longer highlighted. Now, the *_NEW folder is gone, but the update button still doesn't launch anything. FantasyGroundsUpdater still gets the 'can't be opened' error, but I am still able to run FGUpdaterEngine.

That sounds like it got into a weird situation, like it got interrupted or had a folder issue during update.
You can try an uninstall/reinstall to force everything to rebuild; any campaign data is not uninstalled so should remain. You can make a backup of the data folder, just to have a backup handy too.

I took the lazy way and let the installer overwrite the original install. That seems to have fixed it.
Thanks!

I did a forced app update and no luck for me. Going into /Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds, "FantasyGroundsUpdater" doesn't appear to be recognized as an application (And if I show the package contents, Contents/MacOS/FantasyGroundsUpdater isn't recognized as an executable either). FGUpdaterEngine/FGUpdaterEngine is recognized as an executable, and does function.
Edit: Ok, digging further via the comand-line. Seems like the issue here is that FantasyGroundsUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS/FantasyGroundsUpdater somehow lost the execute bit on the file permissions. Restoring that with a "chmod a+x" and it works again.
