Hello, maybe it is something I've done but since updating all the images and maps I had imported to prep my games is no longer showing in my FGU. How do I recover them?

Your campaign file may have been corrupted. See here for a possible solution. https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1207304196/Restore+Campaign+to+an+Earlier+Save

Check that the images are still in the campaign/images or the top level images folder first though; just in case you haven't imported them properly.

Did you move or rename the files/folders in the images subfolder under the FG data folder after you created the image records?

Also, if you switched your channel from the LIVE channel to the TEST channel, please note that these have two different folder structures to keep them separate.

Thanks for all the replies. I seem to have recovered most of the images after following the how to on fixing a corrupt file, but still many of the NPCs are back to the default letter tokens. All very odd.

Related, someone once told me to save every session file but to not use a USB key as it can be easily corrupted. In that case where do you suggest saving them? My laptop, or a cloud service? Or any other suggestions?

I assume you mean backup?

It is not recommended that you use any kind of synced cloud based backup since experience shows that this can cause errors. You can safely back up your campaign files to any kind of internal or external device manually however.

Yes, backup is what I meant. Excuse the lack of computer language savvy, I'm a user, not a guru like you. :)

The little USB keys do become corrupt much more regularly than other storage devices. But they are still pretty reliable. If have a bad backup once every couple of years is ok, then using a USB key/stuck/thumb drive is fine. But, you can also backup to OneDrive, Google Drive or many other cloud backups. Many of which provide a free level of storage. Or you can buy a USB backup drive. These are like the little drives, only much more robust and store a great deal more info. I don't know current prices of those drives, but 1TB is roughly $100 USD.

Thanks, I will consider that, but that's a lot of gaming info. Not sure I can spend that much time making maps and tokens.

Just like, you know, win the lottery so you have more free time. :)
