Loving the tool tips and feature adds with the hover tips and transparencies! Apologies in advance if you've covered elsewhere - Question: What is the functionality of the TT and AI tick boxes on the combat tracker?

superteddy57
October 12th, 2022, 14:41
TT is Turn Taken - It's to help the GM keep track of who has taken their turn till the next round of action during combat. You can see a similar tracker for NPC ships as well

AI is Avoid Injury - This is to help keep track of who has used their Avoid Injury as it's only allowed once per scene. In some cases there is cause for multiple uses for this, but a helpful reminder for the GM.

Excuse me for the probably dumb question, but I'm quite new to the Fantasy Grounds realm; is this ruleset compatible with F.G. Classic or not?
Thanks

In general, nothing released after June last year will be compatible with FG Classic. To double check, look for the FGC icon next to the product image on the store - STA only has the FGU so it's only for FG Unity.

On the screenshots on the product page, it shows a Character Creator tab. How do you bring this up or did this get removed last minute as it may have problems with expansion books. Anyway, really like the rule set and in the process of trying to find all the pros and cons of it. I hope Smite Works takes over development of the Conan ruleset as that has numerous expansion books that people have been waiting for a release of

superteddy57

That can be accessed through the Character Creator button when you click on characters from the sidebar.

Thank, have another question how do you manually enter in attributes and disciplines or change them on a character sheet? I can't figure that out as I see and have been unable to find no way to manual enter or change the number. Also, if you are adding in a species not from the Core book that has a attribute bonus of fitness +1 or pressence +1 listed for one of the 3 attributes each species has how would you do it? Was thinking setting it to Choice might work and in the species description making a note about the choice being limited.

superteddy57
October 15th, 2022, 10:46
There is an edit button in the top right corner of the frame that will allow you to increase/decrease using up/down arrows. You might want to check out the wiki for more information as it covers many of the basics of the system. As for the species question. Adding them to the details tab will add them when you drop the species to the character sheet or make them available when chosen in the character creator.

The species I'm trying to add has Attributes of +1 Control, +1 Reason, +1 Fitness or +1 Presence. The +1 Fitness or + 1 Presence is the one witch can't be set in details that I'm having trouble with. I set in details tab Control, Reason, and Choice and made a note in the species description that the Choice is limited to Fitness or Presence, since I see no way to limit Choice to just 2 attributes for the time being. The Ktarian from the Alpha Quadrent book is one with the Choice being limited. I added in all the species from the Alpha, Beta, Gama, and Delta Quadrent books last night and only couldn't easily add in the Ktarian. Not sure if any of the other official species in other products or fan made ones will have similar or other entry problems as that is over 100 species to look at from combined official and fan stuff. Official is about 20 more to do and fan is well over 80 with more being added almost every day. So anyway to limit a Choice on a species?

superteddy57
October 15th, 2022, 14:46
The only way I can think of is to try and see the choice option as you mentioned earlier. There is always the manual option and making a note of it in the species record. I unfortunately only worked with the Core Rulebook I was given. Once I see other books, changes could be made.

Thanks for the replies. The wiki link was a little help still figuring out some things about the ruleset. But I got just about everything figured out at this point. The purple boxes and buttons I'm noticing are easy to miss if you're working with the set at 2:00 AM in the morning.

Modiphious is supposed to be working on an updated Errata file for the STA game line the last one is from 2018. All the errata from 2018 is supposed to be in the current version of the Core book. Some newer errata has been posted on the Modiphius, forums, reddit, mentioned in videos.

Some other things to watch out for if you do the supplement books:

The Player's Guide has rules for non-starfleet characters, and the character generation get changed up big time.

The Klingon Core book uses the same STA Core rules but makes changes for Klingon characters and campaigns and added in in some fixes. The Klingon book also has an alternate reputation system to use that with Core book characters you have to download a free PDF of how to adapt them to starfleet characters.

Link is bellow it and some of the other free things like the old errata PDFs. They have other free things on DrivethruRPG and on the Modiphius store.

https://www.modiphius.net/pages/star-trek-downloads

Just remembered I have to enter in the Tribble after I posted that link as a species. :)

The Tricorder digest version of the rules is the most current form of the rules and it takes precedence when you see difference in stats, rules, in the original STA Core and Klingon Core.

The space frames in the various STA books have errors or got changes, the new Utopia Planitia book has the most current and corrected version of them.

If you do the Operations Division book make sure you include the Red Alert rules from it and VTT version of the counters in it as tokens.

This is probably the biggest thing I saw in the Sneak Peak (which so far looks like the only video showing off the new system?). The old reputation is baked into the UI, and the new reputation is a fairly significant departure. It's probably not too big a deal since it can all be done manually anyway, but it might cause issues down the road depending on how the inner workings... work.

One other thing the sneak peek didn't show was an actual combat scene. It looked like effects were rolled but since it was just an example roll nothing happened; do they work in combat as they should?

superteddy57
October 24th, 2022, 04:43
The system in place is anchored with the core rulebook I was given by the publisher. The damage effects are in STA.

So I just created a campaign, using the STA ruleset, and I don't seem to have the LCARS UI. How do I activate it?

superteddy57
October 26th, 2022, 06:25
The official Star Trek ruleset should have the theme shown on the store page. There is a forge ruleset in the Forge that was released by a community member, but this is not the official ruleset. I would also check to make sure you have not enabled another theme extension prior to loading the campaign.

Felderburg
October 26th, 2022, 06:40
Aha, I had selected one of the FG themes, because I thought I had to. Thanks for clearing up that simple thing.

Another question: is there a guide somewhere to making species formatted similarly to the actual module, if I wanted to add homebrew stuff? Specifically with bold, italics, bullet points, and linking to talents. I can export a created species, and edit its xml from the exported module, and I'm familiar with basic xml, but I want it to look similar. I'm mostly wondering about how to link to allowed talents in a description when I create a species.

The best start would be the wiki

There are also many videos that may help with setting up campaign data from our resident guru:

Also from another community that is geared towards helping each other learn and use FG to it's highest potential:

Had the same issue and not sure if you found the solution. Make sure you don't have either theme selected when you go in.

You just drag the talent onto the species area you want it to be. As for the rest just follow his example of how the core book's species were put in.

I asked something similar in the bugs thread, about Ablative Armor not automatically changing resistance. If you hold control and use the mouse scroll wheel you can change most number fields up and down manually. It would be nice if this ability was more apparent in the UI or able to be done via the edit pencil thing like most other items, but it does add a little number in the corner of the edited field so you know it's been manually changed.

Thanks.

Vires Animi

I ran into this. Once you create a new ship in the party sheet, you have to double click its token. It's extremely not obvious, but once you open the ship that way you can drag frames and profiles. A ship created in the party sheet can only be fully edited that way—even though it's added to the 'ships' list, editing from that list treats it as an npc ship.

Thanks.

I thought it was able to be used to create NPC ships and not just player ships. Seems like an oversight.

Felderburg
November 1st, 2022, 20:06
You can create NPC ships from both places, it's only player ships that need the 'double click on token' process. The sneak peak is available on youtube if you need the exact process.

superteddy57

I have expanded this to that if you use the 'Create Item' radial option on the party sheet it will open the empty PC ship sheet and the master indexes for the frames and profiles

This is based on the CoreRPG ruleset, right? If so, how compatible are things like CoreRPG extensions (e.g. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20320-CoreRPG-Community-Extensions)? Or is it determined on a case-by-case basis?

superteddy57
November 4th, 2022, 16:50
You can give them a try in a brand new campaign to see how they work with the ruleset. There is no guarantee that a CoreRPG extension will work flawlessly with any ruleset. I checked out the link and that is a tad old of a post. Which extension did you have your eyes on?

None specifically, I was just curious (although I may try out a font extension I saw, just to see if I can get some LCARS or other Star Trek fonts in the UI). That's a stickied post in the CoreRPG forum section, so I assumed it would be up to date.

superteddy57
November 4th, 2022, 21:09
I'm not saying that the main issue would be out of date, but depends on what that extension changes. Some are available for every CoreRPG based ruleset, but still can cause issues and not work properly in some rulesets. Would need some testing to ensure and best to do so in a separate campaign to not mess up your current one.

What type of record are you using to create the Centaur class? To be accepted as a drop you would need to crate it as a frame and then drop it onto an opened PC ship record.

I'm not able to drop records without weapons at the moment due to a bug I did find, but after that was sorted, it dropped just fine. From the sounds of your inquiry your frame would have the record filled out or it would be throwing errors as I have tested. If it's not throwing errors, then I'm not sure what might be cause the issue. Can you export the frame in question and share it here for me to look over?

Noob Question on Momentum

When rolling for a task how do I spend Momentum to add the extra dice purchased to the roll?

Dragging has no inherent automation. It just adjusts the pools and relays who spent the chip. If you wish to do it manually you can add a relevant number (1, 2, or 3) to the modifier box and roll normally from the character sheet. This will add the number of dice to your pool when you roll. The other option is the momentum/threat spender from the tools category on the sidebar. This will adjust the pool and add the modifier number.

I would suggest you check over the wiki as it provides information on how to use the ruleset.

How do we spend "determination"? Particularly;arly in the realm of ship-to-ship combat?

Also in a ship -to-shop scenario, what do the green and black circles signify, given the map is divided into sectors that are used for range?

There's no place for Values other than "Notes"? In a couple of test games, that's made it hard to refer to quickly for players.

Any chance that we can get a dedicated area for this fairly important aspect of the game?

Another problem - our DM accidentally deleted the ship we painstakingly built from the party sheet, when he was trying to delete the crew.
It's just gone!
No save we could find - its like a Q just snapped it out of existence.
Is it saved anywhere?

Is it possible to protect against or warn against this for the future?

This came about because we were trying to figure out why the ship's phaser damage was not including its security rating to the number of damage dice rolled?

I would recommend to try and find manual cases as we don't automate everything. Determination does have some automation. You can right click on the determination box on the charsheet to have options available. I'm not quite sure what you are referring to with the green and black circles. You might need to help me with showing me what you are referring to. I'm not planning on expanding the Notes section at this time as I would have to adjust many elements to make that available. The players can create those notes and then drag the link to the hotbar on the bottom. This is a shortcut area and it will open the relevant record with one of the function keys

I am sorry that your group experienced that. I think something might be up with the radial option and it's not being focused on the crew. I will look for a solution to this as I can see how much of a frustration this can cause.

Role vs. station?

In the module, a charcacter's "ship role" is on their sheet, and that corresponds to the power they get for something like chief science officer or commanding officer. But the "role" that goes to the ship/party sheet is more like ship "station" rather than "role." Is it possible to rename the party sheet item to "station"?

superteddy57

Are you referring to the label under Species in the Partysheet?

Felderburg
September 5th, 2023, 00:17
Maybe? It only ever says "Crew Member," so I'm not sure.

In the character sheet, under the "Ships" tab, you can choose a ship and a station (e.g. communications or sensor operations), which changes the character's label from "Passenger" to whatever the chosen station is in the crew sheet's Ships tab.

The "Ship Roles" table form the "Campaign" section of the sidebar menu has the roles like Chief Engineer or Science Officer, but they can only be dragged to a character sheet's "Notes" tab, below the rank. It seems like the role should also appear somewhere on the party sheet.

Hello all,

I swear I have somehow done this before but for the life of me I cannot remember how I did it. So, here is my question:

Is there a way to pull a frame onto a ship NPC card to autofill the card, or, is it possible to drag a ship from the party sheet onto an NPC card? My hope is to use the frame as a base for unique NPC ships instead of having to copy a ship and remake it. Mainly this is so I do not have to recreate custom weapons.

Partly to save PC ships. Mostly because I am putting together a sourcebook for a campaign based on FASA's Starfleet Battles board game, Federation and Empire. Allowing a frame to be dropped onto NPC ship cards would be much more efficient when giving ship classes the +, A, and B refits.

I created a campaign, and then exported it as a module, which is my understanding is generally the recommended procedure. The player ship I created does not seem to have exported with it, but the pregen characters did. Is that a limitation of the export function? Is there an easy way to get the ship in the actual play campaign from the development campaign, or is it just copy/paste the xml or recreate it?

superteddy57
February 5th, 2024, 00:07
PC ships are not exportable. You could make a NPC ship that can be dropped to the partysheet and it gets converted into a PC ship.
