Using 5E rules, is there a way I can quickly set up a parcel for an encounter based on the NPCs or based on specific treasure tables? Ideally I'm hoping there's some magic text I can place in a Story entry that will generate a parcel, but I'd be happy to be able to pre-build a parcel if there was an easier way to do it based on the NPCs.

Simple example:

I've got an encounter with 5 Bandits in it. I can pull up the "Individual Treasure: Challenge 00-04" table and roll to a parcel, but doing that five times results in five individual parcels, where I want one.

I see that inside a table it's possible to use syntax that results in multiple rolls on other tables, but I can't seem to find how to use that syntax outside a table... i.e. enter text somewhere that triggers N rolls on table Y to go to the same parcel. So far, the only way I can find to trigger that kind of behaviour would be to create a table with only one row in it that itself triggers multiple rolls on another table... which seems like a dumb way to go about it.

Can I just stick "[6*][Individual Treasure: Challenge 00-04]" somewhere to cause 6 rolls on that table to all go to the same parcel? (this is why I'm wondering about putting it in a story, next to the Encounter link). I have tried using this as the text for a Link and Table paragraph types in a Story without any luck.

For this simple encounter it's not the hardest thing in the world to do some manual rolls and add up the results and punch them into a parcel, but as I get encounters with more variety of enemies it seems a simpler way will become much more important.

It depends on your ruleset, but it seems possible from my testing.

Here is a table of items, and the output is set to Parcel, when rolled, it generated a parcel. I basically copied an existing table and set it to output to a Parcel, and once I rolled, it generated the parcel.

I had a bit of clean up to do on the parcel (deleting a few items), but other than that it seemed to work.

Yeah, so that's my "create a table with only one row in it that itself triggers multiple rolls on another table" example from the original question, correct? I'm trying to avoid that since it means setting up potentially many custom tables with just one row in them. That's why I was asking about getting some sort of "do X rolls on table Y" trigger inside a story, so that I don't have to create an entire unique object in my campaign database that won't ever get used again.

You're going to need to create the tables (if they do not exist already), a story entry on it's own cannot do that so far as I am aware. About the only thing you could do with a story entry is to drag the table to it, so you can open the table from the story entry, you'll still have to open the table though, the syntax won't work elsewhere.

Okay, so there's no way to generate a single parcel from a group of NPCs without just hand-editing a parcel... adding up treasure from each NPC. That seems like a weird feature gap.

Yes, as mentioned above you can use a table or multiple tables to create a parcel. Tables exist in the DMG for individual treasures. Create a table that rolls x times on that table to generate the parcel.

What's done on a lot of the official adventures is having a gear parcel for the individual NPC, linked in their Notes section. While it's still only one parcel, you can open it and drag it into the Party Sheet Inventory any number of times. So if you have Bandit Gear, you can toss that into the party sheet 3 times for Bandit A, Bandit B, and Bandit C - and you'll have 3 of all the items. I think this is the closest you'll get to what you're looking for.
