View Full Version : Duplicate NPC Tokens When Adding from Encounter

I hope this is the proper place to seek this help:

I have created an encounter with several waves of baddies that will come at the players. Once entered into the Encounter, I have dragged the tokens to where they all need to start on the battle map.
When I add the NPCs to the Combat Tracker to begin combat they add successfully and place the tokens in the proper spots.
The problem is that the place-holder tokens ALSO stay (directly underneath the Combat-Ready Tokens). So when I try to grab multiple tokens at once to move them as a group both the Combat Tokens AND Place-Holder Tokens move.

The tokens are duplicated and only half of them can be interacted with by the players (roll dice over them to auto add damage, etc)

Any idea how I can select only the actual Combat NPC Tokens from the Combat Tracker to move them as a group?
Or how I can "lock" the placeholders in place as un-selectable?

Thanks for the help and please forgive me if this has been asked before - I couldn't find any thread about it.

Thanks!

Welcome to FGU.

After you have placed your tokens you need to close the encounter and the placed tokens will go away. Then when you need to activate the encounter open it and add the encounter.

Ok! Thanks for the warm welcome and thank you so much for the help!

So I'm hearing the order of operations are:
>Create Map
>Create Encounter
>Drag Encounter Tokens Onto Map from Encounter Window
>Close Encounter
>Close Map
>Open Encounter and Add to Combat Tracker
>Close Encounter Window
>Open Map
>Profit?

I must be doing something wrong because that order of operations still resulted in two groups of tokens.
Do I need to delete the Encounter Placeholder Tokens after I've placed /linked them?

I apologize if I'm missing something fundamental.

EDIT: It appears that where I'm going wrong may be in "closing the encounter". The gray placeholders do not go away when I close the encounter window. Should they?

Yes, when you place the tokens from the encounter and then close the encounter window the placement tokens go away. More information here https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/996641934/5E+NPCs+and+Encounters#Creating-Encounters

Are you using an extensions? If so can you try in a new campaign without extensions.

I believe it was indeed the "D&D 5e Official Language Fonts" extension that was causing the problem for some reason.

Thank you so much! This fixed the problem and saved my session tonight!
