v4.2.2 Ultimate (2022-06-07) with 5E rule set no extensions loaded. Loaded modules are Players Handbook, DM's Guide, and Monster Manual. I am having an issues changing NPC spells and to simplify I am testing against one spell on an Acolyte. I copy the record and edit the copy by changing the sanctuary spell to command. I then delete the currently spells in the Spell sections. Lock the sheet, close and reopen. I see command under Spellcasting however no spells populate in the Spell section. I add the record to the combat tracker and the spells are listed and do function when casting from the tracker.

I did recently delete the 5E.pak, CoreRPG.pak, 5E-addons.dat to troubleshoot a separate issue. Upon running update before attempting to edit an NPC record these files re-downloaded.

Spells no longer populate the NPC sheet by default. They do show once the NPC is on the combat tracker. If you want the spells to show in the NPC sheet then right click on the Main tab of the NPC and select parse NPC spells.

Is there a place where this type of vital information is disseminated amongst the users of the software so we don't waste 2 hours wondering why something no longer works in the future?

It's usually in the high-level patch notes posted in the City Hall forum.

In standard use, this usually doesn't come up very often; since most people place NPCs on combat tracker before trying to use them for spells.

I don't think that one was ever published. But ruleset updates are posted here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/patchnotes_ruleset.html
