Hello,

I'm not an artist... non-the-less, I'm looking for a means to create simple maps for:

Town/City over views...

Shops, rooms.....

Cavern and Dungeon maps....

etc.............

What applications are most recommended? Again, I'd like to keep this as simple as possible. What are my options?

There are many mappers, some free. Tile based mappers tend to keep things simple.

Free City Mapper: https://www.drachenzahn.de/city_map_generator/city_maps.html

Shops, Room hit up WotC's Map a week (sites down or I'd link).

There are tons of dungeon mappers:
Tile mapper at the WotC site: https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121t
And another Stone Sword: https://www.stonesword.com/
Personally I still use Dungeon Crafter2 though 3 is in development: https://www.geocities.com/blood_tyger/
Dungeon Forge is decent too: https://www.dungeonmapping.com/df/public_html/index.php
Jamis Buck Dungeon Generator: https://www.aarg.net/~minam/dungeon.cgi
Fractal World Mapper: https://www.lysator.liu.se/~johol/fwmg/fwmg.html

I am a fan of Dundjinni. (https://dundjinni.com/)
(Although you do have to pay for it, and it's not the simpliest of applications, you do get nice results)

Here's a new one. It's in beta, but shows a lot of promise. I like what I see so far.

Nothin' quite like Microsoft Paint. ;) Simple, comes on your computer. Draw something simple, spray some trees on with a green spray paint, plop a grid on top of it and you're good to go... Shapes can be buildings whatever. Remember, most of it is about imagination.

Having said that, I enjoy the wonderfully done artistic map. But I'm not too good at those, so tend to scavenge free maps off the net.

I've used CC2 for a while (not that I'm any good... but that's lack of skill, not power of the program.)

I've been using the 1.4 version of Dungeon Crafter with the extra Abandoned Cathedral images. Very easy (much easier than DC3 - ick). It works very well for simple maps and there are tons of tiles, objects, etc in the Abandoned Cathedral packs.
