View Full Version : [5e] Paladin changing Oaths - things to consider

Hi all,

I have a Paladin that is level 12, Oath of Devotion, but for reasons will be changing their oath to something else.

I would like to remove 'Oath of Devotion' from the Abilities page of the Character sheet and directly replace it with the new one. However, if I do so, will FGU recognise this when it comes to levelling-up the Paladin and offer the spells and upgrades relevant to the new Oath, rather than the old one?

If anyone knows the result of this, I would appreciate you letting me know before I go tampering in ways I struggle to undo!

Many thanks

I don't know the answer, but do have some advice that I hope is helpful.

I suspect the behavior might be different between drag & drop and character wizard, so keep that in mind.
Start by making a copy/backup/duplicate of your character. Give it a logical name.
My first attempt would be to just delete the ability and add the new one.
Second attempt would be remove all class abilities, change to level 1 and start adding levels again.
Third would be recreating the character pretty quickly from scratch. You would need to drag all the inventory and notes etc over.

Ah, really good advice - thank you. I will do a test later and get it working.

I just noticed that 'Oathbreaker' is a different class, therefore can be added to a PC as a class-level upgrade. I can set-up the new Oath in that way, too, perhaps.
