I was shopping for a laptop and got one. It's not for gaming or anything. Mostly for productivity and work. (16 inch screen). But I got to thinking: how would it work for Fantasy Grounds? Which then got me thinking:

What size screen is everyone using?

I run FG on my laptop with a 16" screen with resolution set to 1920 x 1080. I have a second 24" monitor at 1920 x 1080 as well. They are in a stacked config so I only use one or the other for FG and use the other for notes, webpages, Discord, etc. When I travel I just have my laptop. It's a bit annoying, but easy enough.

Screen resolutions are actually higher, but ten everything (not just FG) is too small for me.

Though, it would be worth noting, that I plan on playing on my laptop but GMing on my desktop which has tons of real-estate.

IMO you will be fine as a player. Especially if you are happy running 4k resolution or such on a laptop screen. But it all pretty much depends on how many windows you insist on being pen at a given time.

2 screens 34" at 2560X1440, FGU extended on both screens. I use Turbotop in order to keep whatever I want on top of FGU (ie Syrinscape window and Tabletop Audio window).

I am confused by these two statements when taken together...

1 x 27" @ 2560 x 1440.

I use 4 Windows virtual desktops with hotkeys to cycle through them so I can keep PDFs, etc open but out of the way.

I am confused by these two statements when taken together...
Hmm...

Ok, So the first one is my setup. A 16" laptop screen with a 24" monitor placed vertically above it (both in landscape). I run both at relatively low resolution, mainly because at 4k resolution, regular things on the desktop are just too small (yes I know about Windows scaling, maybe I'll play with it again in the future, but for now this works).

The second statement is just trying to say that a single 4k monitor is plenty of real estate for FG, because IF 4k on whatever size screen you are using (16", 24" 32" etc) does not have the text and icons that are too small for you. i.e. If I am happy running FG n a single 1920x1080 monitor, then I think running FG on a single 4K monitor should be fine for most people.

Does that help clear it up?

You said in one post that everything is too small at higher res and then you said it shoudl be fine at 4k on a laptop screen :bandit:

Ignore me - Im just nit picking!

Personally I have two 32" monitors and one 24" monitor (portrait mode) on my desktop computer. FG was spread across the two monitors and the 24" was for pdfs, discord, etc... worked well while I was using it.

However, life has given me considerable necessity to travel over the past year, and into the foreseeable future, so I am now using a 17" gaming laptop... I have the ability to hook into a second monitor should I need it, but I have tried to acclimatize to just the laptop as it's what I'll be using going forward (haven't even turned on the desktop in ~ a calendar year other than to install a butt load of updates back in April).

My main grip is with the map being able to be forced to be full screen background mode. I would like to force combat tracker to be always foreground. The size on my 32 inch 4K screen with /scaleui 80 is fine. But I like real estate.

The main issue I have is that if I size a window for my screen. The players also default to opening the same windows at that size. Meaning things like ‘Message of the Day’ open up larger than some peoples screens allow and then they have to shift drag resize. Everything I share seems to inherit my last window sizes.

Even players PC’s.

I use my 65" 4k HDR TV. Used to dual screen with my laptop, but the TV/PC upgrade a few years ago made it both difficult and unnecessary. I do use the laptop for discord/browser/pdfs.

My main setup I use a 34” and a 27”. As I type this I’m visiting at my parents house so I had to cart my 15” laptop and a 24” monitor with me to run a game tomorrow night (Friday). Should be interesting it’s rare I try this setup to run a game.

Main is a 34" 21:9 ultrawide at 3440x1440 (full dedicated to FGU) and a secondary 24" 16:9 1920x1080 for the other purposes.. (before this set up I used 3 x 24" 16:9 at 1920x1080)..

I use Three 27" 1920 x 1080 screens and stretch FG across all three of them. I just bought a 4th screen to hang in the middle for stuff other than FG being run / looked at. I love having so much good space for DM'ing on FG.

My main FGU monitor is 3440 x 1440 then I have two more 1920 x 1080 monitors mounted on swivel arms on my gaming desk that I can pull in or push away from me if I don't need them. I usually have discord on the left one with webcam windows of my players and the right is used for music services, websites and all that jazz.
