Last summer I heard rumors of a Runequest ruleset being developed and a plan to release it when the starter set came out later in November 2021. The starter set is here since quite some time but no Runequest ruleset. Are there still plans for a Runequest product? Good to know before I invest more time into my BRP extension for RQ:AiG.

We unfortunately don't provide ETA's for any of our releases as most content is produced by community developers. Things can happen and projects can fall apart prior to release. I have heard of one project that is still being worked on at this time. Once it is ready for release we will provide more information.

PeterB, it is being worked on. If you want to see updates you can follow the community developer on twitter @MadBeardMan, he posts regularly.

It will also give you an appreciation of the time and effort these developers put into it in their free time, as most, if not all, have full time jobs as well.

Me and my group are excited to hear Runequest is coming to Fantasy Grounds! I can’t wait! Thank you

I am sorry, I don't really understand what you mean here. Is someone working on Runequest for FGU or not?

MadBeardMan told us 3 days ago on tweeter that his RQ ruleset is in test phase. He is waiting for feedback from the tester. So it probably won't be too long now, I personnaly hope that we could get it before the end of the year now.

Any further updates? It's nearly the end of the year - assuming it was 2023 that was meant :)

I believe that the developer that was working on this has stopped working on products for Fantasy Grounds.

Let's hope that all his work (near completion last time I checked) is not lost. He probably will be paid for his current work and hopefully someone will complete the ruleset.

Just had a chat with MadBeardMan on Bluesky about the Runequest ruleset. His response: "...I passed it onto another dev, but not heard back at all". So hopefully the Runequest ruleset his still alive.

Yea, it would be nice if it is.

Any news on this topic? Is anyone working on it? There's one feature which I'm curious to see how it was solved, and that is the handling of strike ranks. The rest of Runequest can actually be implemented by creating extensions to the Basic Roleplaying ruleset.

IT would be great for me, I have a group back in the UK I could run a few games with but I'd have to use a VTT cos I have moved to Denmark.

From a chat with Madbeardman on Bluesky, Jun 4. He send an email to Chaosium about finishing up the Runequest ruleset for FGU or passing it over to someone else. Quote: "there's a lot of effort in that ruleset, it need to see the light of day.".
It seems that the ruleset is working fine with the last FGU, some testings have to be done. Almost complete plus the "initial books" already converted.
From what I understand the ball is now in Chaosium camp.
Fingers crossed.

From MadBeardMan on Bluesky today: the almost-completed ruleset is still in the hands of Chaosium. Has the project been flushed down the toilet or handed over to someone else? MadBeardMan doesn't know.

AFAICT it's been a few years since any licensed conversion of any Chaosium product was released for FGU (Down Darker Trails in 2019 seems to have been the very last one, if I check the store, filter by publisher and sort by release date).

Not sure which is harder for me to conceptualize: that that was the last time FG did a Chaosium product or that Darker Trails was five years ago (!). I'm feeling old again. 2019... was... 5... years... ago...

I swear 1999 was just yesterday and 1989 was just last week...

Gates to Terror was released last August, so there is hope.

Chaosium dont have the skill inhouse to do a conversion. It will need a developer willing to take it on.

Yes, to be more precise, I think the ruleset belongs to Smiteworks but it seems it is up to Chaosium to find a new developer. At last that's what I understand from MadBeardMan props. Mad seems to want to resume development of its ruleset, but I don't know what its relationship with Smiteworks currently is. I hope something can be decided between Chaosium, Smiteworks and MadBeardMan (or any other chosen developer). I can't imagine that a near completed ruleset could be discontinued.

"Near completed" is a subjective term and there have been a lot of CoreRPG changes in the last year.
And ruleset abandonment of even completed rulesets happens.
My guess is that unless someone here (community dev) starts the ball rolling nothing will happen.

We are open to any new rulesets created by the community as long as they have a dedicated developer attached to ensure that the ruleset is maintained as FG continues to evolve. We have inherited a few different rulesets over time and it becomes a bit of a challenge for us to keep up with these in addition to other rulesets we manage. We'd like to see a community dev attached to it who commits to the intent of keeping it current.

MadBeardMan recently stepped back from Traveller and had stepped back from other rulesets he worked on prior to that. Maybe he and another dev could team up to get this over the finish line and maintain it going forward. We have not received any information or submissions for Runequest on our side at this time.
