Is there any way to "lock" the tag indicators in the Skill tab on the character sheet so that a player can't click into the tag entry and change it during play after character generation?

No, there are no locks on the character sheet.

My understanding is that it is open so that campaigns with house rules have maximum flexibility. Of course with flexibility comes the potential for abuse.

That is for the table to discuss and monitor. We build for many table types. We want to give you the ability to play your way. That is why many features are open and not locked.

Sure but a lock doesn't make it permanent, just unable to accidently change a value. There's always an "unlock" option. I vote to see that as a feature in the future.

Maybe you could make it possible to edit the tag skills in a skill edit mode but lock them in general play mode? So can house rule away but not accidentally tag a skill.

Or untag it (which is what I kept doing when trying to roll the dice)...

That is how the NPC sheet operates and something to consider for sure.
