With the recent patch the fonts seem "thinner". I noticed it when I loaded up a npc record list and all the npc names are... not as clear as they once were. I originally noticed in 2E ruleset but seems the same in 5e.
Couple other folks I asked noticed the same thing. I'm not sure what the difference is but they just do not seem as clear as before.

I think the fonts might be "wider" than before but Im not sure how long that has been for. It was pointed out to me in CoC that some bold text was over running the adjacent fields.

The last change to fonts was in January to adjust the caret/underline positioning; but did not change the font loading routines. Any other changes were >6 months before. I'm not sure why it seems like the fonts might be narrower/wider (depending on perspective/font).

I don't see some obvious font change in 5e or my rulesets. Though... there was very weird issue that I reported and it sorted itself out between FGU builds on MAC OS - fonts in Alien ruleset's sidebar didn't properly render and reverted to some weird serif instead of the one I was specifying in the ruleset.

It's hard to explain. I just seem to recall the fonts were more solid/bold. It's seems thin and even distorted a little now. Unfortunately I didnt take any screen shots I dont think from before to now I could compare tho. It just appears the font weight was reduced or something at some point.
I've opened a few different windows to compare how the fonts look. The CT font is actually increased in the ruleset but you can see elsewhere where what I expect is "normal" font size the text is rather thin.

It looks like it always did, as far as I can remember. Is there a specific UI scale that you're running at? Have you tried another one?

No, I've not changed ui scale in ages. I guess maybe it just looks thinner to me now for some reason. I might just need to adjust "normal" font sizes.

This reminds me of a question I asked not long ago..

Once in a while, I have seen or witnessed people using two themes accidentally and two font extensions to change the fonts. Make sure that you do not accidentally have more than one theme or an outdated fonts extension loaded.

I do not run themes or font extensions. Definitely not when checking 5e's font style.

Ah, what @bmos shared is probably relevant; I forgot that as part of the standardizing of the caret/underline; I also consolidated the font height handling so that it was consistent across fonts. It didn't appear to affect the Noto Sans fonts at all from my comparisons in detail at the time; but did affect some of the custom fonts used by some of the themes/rulesets.

I dont believe the 2E ruleset uses custom fonts unless there are some I missed. I am pretty sure I got most of them out when FGU went up to standardize with Core. But to me 5e looked the same.
Tho I could be misunderstanding the entire train of thought you two are having.
