View Full Version : How are people handling Dancing Lights?

One of my players just got the spell. My first thought was to put 4 tokens on the map and give them a light effect, but none of the presets are accurate (10' dim) and when I create my own effect, I can't apply it to tokens that aren't in the combat tracker.

I suppose I could just create token lights in the lighting settings on the map, but I'm starting to wonder if there's an easier way to do this that I'm just not aware of.

Thanks.

You can only apply lights either directly onto the map or onto an active token on the CT. So you'll need to choose which one you want or use theatre of the mind to describe what the lights see.

I have been able to drag tokens onto the map that are not in the combat tracker. I have used this to create campfires with light, spiritual hammers, and darkness spells that are not centered on active combatants.

How did you manage to attach a light effect to such a token?

I drag them onto the map from assets and then just use the easy lights extension. The caveat is that I have to delete the token to get rid of the light. I have been using that for a while.

The important part being you are using an extension which doesn't help the OP.

Actually, it’s quite helpful. I am OP. I was looking to see if anyone had a better method.

yeah, the Easy lights extension doesnt use the combat tracker light effects, it instead directly adds the tokenlights the same as if you used the token lighting sidebar.

My solution was to create lighting presets for them in the Options->Token Lights

Then the easy lights extension adds a button to the image toolbar to quickly apply the light to a token on the map.

That's brilliant. I somehow didn't realize I could do that. Thanks!
