Just to clarify can one player with the demo edition join a standard edition holder's game?

Cheers.

In Unity no.

Technically they can connect, but it puts the game in demo mode where things can't be saved. So you can demonstrate FG but not really play a game.

FG Classic allows the one demo user -> Standard license -> switch to demo mode. I don't think FG Unity allows that, but I don't have a Unity standard license to test to be sure.

No, the FGU demo can not be used to host at all (networked hosting is disabled); but can be used to connect to any FGU host running an Ultimate license.

I think the question is, can a Standard FGU license host a single demo user in demo mode (no save).

Sorry to be picky, but just to clarify - the one demo license connected a standard license for FG Classic would switch the session to "demo" - the "demo" session would save data, it would only accept one demo license - and that's why it was called a "demo" mode, if a licensed user joined the session it would switch and the unlicensed user would be kicks - FG Classic only allowed a single player in total to connect to this "demo" mode. It was not the same as a demo license loading a campaign in FGC - where that "demo" campaign data wouldn't be saved. Confusing, I know...

FGU allows any campaign to be loaded, but only licensed users are open to be connected via the network. (i.e. If demo/no license, networking is disabled when loading/creating campaigns, but otherwise fully editable and able to be saved.)

It doesn't matter anymore what FGC did, as it was much more confusing.

Thanks for providing confirmation of how FGU works.

The OP didn't mention if they were referring to FG Classic or Unity, so getting an overview of how each functions should cover both bases!

The challenge is that I would have to figure it all out again in order to explain it (which would take some time and code review to build up knowledge again). Unless it’s an urgent need, I’m going to leave this into the soon to be unsupported part of my brain, and focus on new stuff.

Cheers,

Sorry, I wasn't asking you to explain FGC as well - I understand how that works and have explained it in post #7 above. I think we have enough in this thread to cover the OP's question, be it for FGU or FGC.
