They seem really expensive to me, so I was wondering what I am missing. I assumed they work like a searchable PDF?

What else do they do for you?

They add new class or race options.

Since they are FGU modules they'll come as reference manuals along with the various races/classes options in the same format you get from the players handbook.

The Race handbooks I've converted contain the Race(s) the book is covering and in most cases additional kits, items, and sometimes classes.

The Class books (such as Fighter Handbook) contain a list of kits (10-20 each book generally), items, sometimes spells, skills and I think some include additional classes. It really depends on the product. I automated as much as I could (such as bonus skills and effects) where I could.

In short you'll find the full text of the book as well as records that can be used in FG where possible.

Each of these I converted you can see the actual records listed in the product preview to get a better idea.
