View Full Version : 5e Right-click menus stop working

From time to time my right click menus stop working. I can get the menu to appear when I right-click, but clicking on any option in the menu just causes the menu itself to disappear -- nothing else happens. The only fix I've found is to kill FGU completely and reload, which obviously sucks during as gaming session since I'm the DM. :)
Example: I right-click on an image's menu to see the Share Record option. Normally I click this option and the menu changes to display Share Record or Stop Sharing Record. But once in a while clicking on this option just causes the entire menu to disappear...actually, maybe it's only this specific menu??
Most of the time my right-click menus work just fine (including the Share Record menu). I thought maybe it was a stale FGU session, but I've had it happen within a few minutes of opening FGU.
Since I couldn't find this question answered before, maybe it's just me. Any suggestions for kicking this other than restarting FGU?

First check in a new campaign without any extensions loaded. If the problem goes away then it is probably an extension.
If not that make sure you don't have any unpacked rulesets or folders in your rulesets folder. If so delete them and update FGU.
If not that can you say what version shows in the top right of the start screen and what versions of the 5e rulesets and CoreRPG rulesets show in the chat when you start your campaign.

The problem is very sporadic, so I've had to test as I worked on my existing campaign in order to occasionally see it happen. But with no extensions loaded and only .pak files in my rulesets folder, it just happened again. I've got v4.1.6 Ultimate running on macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina). The rulesets show in chat as:
Dungeons and Dragons (5E) ruleset (2022-03-15)
Core RPG ruleset (2022-03-20)
Thanks much for the help!
P.S. Also confirmed that it's not only the Share Image menu. For example, it also happens with the format text menu.

Just to confirm, it's enough to just have no extensions selected from the startup screen, correct? I don't need to remove them from folders in order to confirm the issue isn't with an extension?

A sporadic problem is pretty difficult to pin down. And it could be a specific mac related issue and I don't know much about macs.
You could try a reinstall if all else fails. The only other thing I can think about is whether you have any overlays - like Steam or Discord or any devices such as controllers connected to your computer. It kinda sounds a little like the mouse is losing focus on the menu and such things could be caused by overlays or some other device taking over your mouse clicks. But I'm shooting in the dark really.

Yes, as long as you test in a new campaign without extensions. Even switching off extensions in an existing campaign could leave code behind which could cause issues.

Are you sure that it's not just your mouse button wearing out? Even high end mice do wear out.

New laptop, using the trackpad and not a mouse...also, it's never a problem with the 1st right-click, it's only when I try to select an option from the 1st menu. For example, I can always get to the menu where I can see Paragraph Types, but sometimes clicking that just causes the menu to disappear instead of bringing up the menu for Headers, Bullet points, etc.
Then again, it hasn't happened for over a week now...
