View Full Version : Giving Control of NPC to Player (5E)

We were playing Strom King's Thunder (D&D 5E adventure) which includes Fantasy Grounds specific instructions on how to give control of NPCs to the players by dragging and dropping them on the player portraits.
However, the players couldn't move the NPC tokens, nor could they target enemies. All they could do was open the NPC sheet and roll attack and damage rolls.
What did I do wrong? Do I need to drag and drop the NPC sheet, its Combat Tracker entry, or the token on the player portrait?

In Unity you'll need to enable the Party movement and vision option if you want your players to be able to move shared NPCs. The video was made a while back and for Classic which is why it doesn't mention this.

I see! Does that mean that the players will also be able to see what the other players see?

That's correct, unfortunately.
There's an extension that you can use as a workaround: https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/153/view (the name is "assistant GM" but one of the basic functionalities is giving specifi NPC control to players including movement and vision on the map).
Also, in my signature there's a link to the page to vote for this feature to be added to FGU, click on that if you will.

The Friend Zone Extension is a good way to give players controle over the NPC Tokens. https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/170/view
