View Full Version : Issue when moving tokens between maps directly

Ran into an issue when moving a PC token directly between maps (as DM), where the player would not see their new token on the next map, and for some reason still had visibility on the previous map despite not having any tokens on it any longer. This doesn't seem to happen if the token is moved directly from the Combat Tracker to the map.

In a new 5E campaign, no extensions

DM: Load Tomb of Annihilation module
DM: Open two maps: Player Map - Camp Righteous and Player Map - Rotten Halls

Note that Rotten Halls does not have Lighting enabled

DM: Put PC (with Darkvision 60) from CT onto Camp Righteous map: Setup-DM.JPG (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51986)
Player: Join campaign, take ownership of PC
DM: Share map Camp Righteous
Player: Move token around to generate some FoW data: Setup-Player.JPG (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51987)
DM: Drag PC token directly from Camp Righteous to Rotten Halls: AfterMove-DM.JPG (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51988)
DM: Share map Rotten Halls
Player: Cannot see their token on the new map: AfterMove-Player.JPG (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51989)

If the player can correctly guess their token's position they can click it (despite not being able to see it).

DM: Drag PC token back to Camp Righteous, then back to Rotten Halls, directly between maps the same as before.
Player: Cannot see their token on the new map, and they still have some FoW visibility on the previous map despite having no token: AfterMove2-Player.JPG (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=51990)
DM: Drag PC token from Combat Tracker to Rotten Halls
Player: Can now see their token on Rotten Halls, still has some visibility on Camp Righteous despite no token

Did the player actually take possession of their token on the new map, or did they de-select it by accident?
Clicking one selects, clicking again, deselects the token vision. This is a common issue.
Also, 'sometimes' the link between the PC and the maps gets blocked or broken.
Notate the effects and initiative order of the PC in question.
Remove from the map and CT, and then re-add, and then manually re-adding any effects, durations, and initiative order if applicable.
I have seen where at the actually given moment that you are dragging the tokens to a new map, the data links are potentially corrupted or broken by either, FGU is writing to the disk at THAT very moment. An anti-virus or firewall blocks the initial data request, and 'if' the player or GM are using any wireless connections can easily result in packet loss or data drops, which can cause this important data link information to not transfer.

This is a fairly common issue if you use FG a lot.

The player client cannot select their token, as they cannot see it (or anything).

This is with both GM and player clients running locally, i.e. connected via localhost and not over the network. It's consistently reproducible with the above steps.

Gotcha. Hmm. Hopefully, it will get worked out. Did you add your FGU logs to the initiAL post? Any extensions in use?

Cheers and Good luck!

I just submitted a ruleset fix to the Test/beta channel that should allow the players to see the token correctly after transferring image windows like that.

There is a separate issue where the player client does not clear the LoS/FoW information when the token is deleted but not selected. I've filed for @cpinder to look at when he has a chance.

Thanks! I just tried it on the Test channel and the player was able to see the token.
