According to recent reports, this ruleset has not been maintained and no longer seems to be working.

There is a support for a latest version of the World of Darkness system available in the FG store officially licensed from the publisher.

Note: This is not the same version of WoD game system that the ruleset in this thread originally supported.

Hi guys!

I decided to continue to support and further develop the wonderful ruleset of the respected earthworm3 ! (Link to the thread (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?19662-Vampire-the-Masquerade-Ruleset-for-FG3)).
Now this is a single ruleset for the old World of Darkness 20th Anniversary Edition (support for the lines of Vampires, Werewolves and Magi, with plans to add Changelings and Wraiths).

In this topic, I will post new versions, TODO lists, perhaps a small FAQ.
Found bugs please post in this thread.

For starters, I post links to the stable rulesets (inside there are folders broken down by version) and the current beta version.

New stable version!
The main dish is the support of character sheets from the Changeling: The Dreaming and Wraith: The Oblivion lines (as well as a simple sheet for a Mortal)! Remember, the character sheet switching menu is triggered by right-clicking on the More button.
There are also a lot of fixes and changes under the hood aimed at cleaning, optimization, and so on.
As always, breaking changes possible, backup your campaign before switching version!

Attention, breaking changes!
A lot of refactoring and cleaning of xml schemas and lua code. The charsheets of the characters from the old version of the ruleset will be partially broken, you may have to re-configure some of the traits or even recreate the character.
Be careful if you are going to use the new version in the old campaign - it would probably be a good idea to finish it first with the previous version of the ruleset, lol. Or just backup the campaign for a quick rollback and see all the new changes. :o
Therefore:
- added "+/-" buttons for each trait to add/remove dots accordingly.
- added trait editing buttons that display/hide the above buttons.
- the trait roll is now performed by double-clicking on the dots, and not the trait name.
- slightly changed the colors for the charsheets of the game lines, for a more obvious difference between them, small decorative elements were added to the main screen. Work on other tabs to add similar decorative elements will continue in future versions.
- the tabs themselves are given abbreviated names instead of page numbering.
- many identical scripts have been removed (duplication of functionality).
- a bit of game logic for dice rolls, for example, the botch will not be used for damage rolls or soaking rolls.
- other minor changes that I have already forgotten about myself. :D

The ability to add sublists to powers, in which you can choose combinations of attributes and abilities to roll a specific branch of power, fields for spending some resources, fields for individual difficulty;
Changeable size of Blood Pool, some hot-buttons for more quick filling/spending (i.e. +2 BP, +5 BP, -2 BP, -5 BP);
The ability to create entries describing the power in the side panel for a simple drag and drop on the character sheet. Automate creating and filling powers;

I'm not just missing something am I? I mean there isn't any library for this. We supply our own manuals and this is just like a pen'n'paper character sheet, right? I haven't even tried to see if the CT works...just too excited!!!

Sorry I probably wasn't clear.

Like in other rulesets there are the buttons across the side of the desktop where you have tabs such as "Story", "Tables" etc

It would be nice to have a spot for Clan, Disciples and Bloodlines like where you'd have "Race", "Feats" and "Special Abilities" in say Pathfinder.

Yeah, I understand what functionality you want, I'll think about implementing it in future versions, especially about Disciplines. Characters, Images, Story, Quests, Notes, Encounters and NPCs can be created anyway, this functionality is built into CoreRPG, from which our ruleset also inherits.

It's the last ruleset revision (i.e. 0.3.0) throwing all those errors? Only client see these messages or host too?

Yes...sorry the latest ruleset (0.3.0)

Only the client saw the messages...I didn't see anything as the host / GM.

Hello GSKlein! Thank you for your help in finding ruleset bugs!

Conducted a quick check and could not reproduce these errors with the combat tracker. Deleting records of PC/NPC from CT passes without errors. As for the broken charsheet - it looks very much like it was created before version 0.3.0, because neither in it nor in the new beta v0.4.1, the dots of disciplines / gifts / other superpowers should not be displayed on the main sheet. Could you create a new character and check if his sheet is broken too? And also check how his entry is deleted/added to the combat tracker (with or without errors)?

This doesn't seem to work (version 0.4.1)...I created a whole new campaign using it and creating a character didn't quite work right (see pictures)

Just to update this seems to be a problem when first creating a character...Mortal...as when you change the sheet to Vampire or what not it shows correctly. I also notice you can't change the sheet back to Mortal. (Nice job adding the other character sheets though for Changling and Wraith...if you can solve the Mortal sheet issue...awesome...because I do have mortals in my games.)


Though the Combat Tracker does seem to work now with no errors.

I couldn't recreate this behavior. We need more information. In general, it sounds like the rulset has not changed at all.

Let's do this - I increased the version of the ruleset to 0.4.2 without any additional changes and created a new folder on Google drive, the version should be displayed as such when running in the FG chat. This way we will make sure that the version has really changed and carries fixes of past problems.

Hello Meldon...looks like this is still broke...and then some.

I'm running 0.4.2 version...but if I try to create a character or NPC the sheets don't load correctly. There's no dots in attributes, skills or anything else. And if you chose the button to add you just get an error and no dots.

Still a great ruleset but needs some fixes.

Hi all! I apologize for the long delay in responding.
I found the reason for the behavior described above - unfortunately, these are extremely unpleasant changes for our ruleset in the latest stable version of FGU, namely the removal of some tags for 'windowlist', which provided its core functionality for the ruleset in the area of displaying character 'dots'. So far, I do not know how to restore the normal operation of the ruleset and I will ask for help from the FGU developers.
Therefore, the release of the new version is delayed. Sorry about that. :cry:

Hey I'm just happy you're still on this and version 0.3.0 is still stable and usable. I'm not sure of all the changes made to get to 0.4.2 but just happy you continue to work on it.

I would like to mention that the Mortal Character Sheets don't populate the top section on the first page (ie nature, demeanor, etc). It does do it on the other character type sheets (ie vampire, werewolf, etc)

Done. Added new fields for nature, demeanor and concept for PC and NPC sheets alike. Also added missing tooltips for NPC feats page. New beta v0.4.4 on Google drive.

A few tweaks for changeling and wraith template in future and if no bugs will pop-up - those version could graduate to new stable ;) hooray!

Seconded. This would help GMs and Players out a lot. Players, who deal with player creation, may find it a lot easier to just click and drag what they need and plop it onto their sheet.

Could you be more specific?
The Clan, Nature & Demeanor fields are located on the main tab, similar to the character sheet from the book.
The skills are below.
Disciplines or other supernatural powers of the characters, as well as backgrounds and notes are created in the character's mini-sheet, which opens by clicking on the "More" button.

Guys, I understand what you want, but I'm asking you literally:

what should, for example, a clan record do when dragging onto a character sheet? What fields should it contain? What fields on the sheet should the record fill in?

By the way, new beta v0.4.6 is here, found and fix some bugs, again :cry:.

The challenge also with those things is that since this system is for each supernatural creatures, you will end up with a plethora of different powers.
The common ones would be: Merits/Flaws/Backgrounds (name/description/level).
(name/description/level) would be applicable to any of the below ones as well:
VtM: Disciplines/Powers(incl. level)/Rituals
WtA: Auspice/Tribe/Breed/Gifts(incl. Rank and categorized by Auspice/Tribe/Breed)/Rites (catgorized by type of rites)/Fetishes
MtA: Rotes using spheres levels/Wonders (name/description/spheres-level)
WtO: Arcanoi
CtD: Arts

NB: I may edit this post with more details after reviewing the relevant books in more details as time allows.

For my initial thoughts...I just need tabs where I can add things...

For Natures and Demeanors...we just need a tab to put them under (do the write-up) and then players / NPCs can just add them to the character sheet.
For Merits and Flaws...we just need a tab to put them under and a place to list a "Cost" or "Bonus" points you get when choosing (we can do the write-up) that way player / NPCs just put on their sheets and link to the merit or flaw
For Disciplines, Gifts and Powers...I think we need to show the "Level" of it and then a spot to type out what powers etc you get for it...then of course players / NPCs can just add to their sheets
Clan/Tribe/Breed/Auspice...we can just do the write-up...like so many other things

Really I just need the tabs to be able to do the write-ups...I don't much need functionality to have the write-ups do something.

Anyone have other thoughts?

Doesn't some of the Merits/Flaws and Disciplines, affect(effect maybe) certain dice pools and even some of the raw attribute & ability totals...I think there is a lot more to simple 'drag & drop' functionality. BUT, as a place to just give us the ability to keep the stuff on a sheet...the tabs could do that.

I for one would volunteer to transcribe these from my books over to a word/notepad format. If that would help. Several folks could make quick work of it I would think.

I will avoid here to talk about IP legal aspects and community sharing of such content.
The advantage of the drag and drop of objects as previously suggested is that you can create modules with them and they can serve as a reference for the players from within their character sheet in the game and you would have to create each object only once as they will be re-used. It is easier to drag and drop an object from a library than to copy paste a whole description every time from an external source, and with your suggested method you will miss the advantages of searching through the different fields when needed.
By the way, the use of objects is the way all rulesets are currently working.

You don't have to automate everything you may start just with the basics first and later expand.
Merits and flaws usually don't have dice pools, they are merely bonus/malus or descriptive.
Disciplines definitely have those, but even in the VTM5TH commercial ruleset you don't have automation on rolls based on disciplines dice pool description. It would anyway be difficult to implement as you would need to catch a specific format string in the description and create the dice pool out of it based on the user's character stats, then the challenge would be to apply the right difficulty modifiers etc... You would need a whole window before throwing the dices to adjust the dice pool and difficulty. First step would be to have a system to create dice pools like in VTM5TH based on stats and setting the difficulty.
Foundry VTT implementations decided that when you click on a stat (attribute or skill) a window pops with that stat nd the others set as default values letting you adjust the stats and difficulties before throwing the dice pool.

I don't need automation...my Players are capable of adding dice to their pools.

Just a place to really put the info and can export it would be great.

I suppose the same...I just have exceptionally worthless players I guess. And/OR, just very old...we played WoD when it was fresh on the market. That means we are all over...55! Some of us are a touch over 60 even ;)

One of these days I will try to write a message with a proposed roadmap for future development, which will include your wishes.
So far, I'm thinking about implementing records for powers (Disciplines, Gifts, etc.) in the next stable version (i.e. v0.5), and other types for the future.

Thank you Meldon for all the word on this ruleset. I was fearful I'd never get to play WoD Original / V20 ever again since my players aand I only do online rpging now...we live away from one another and have busy family lives. So this ruleset has been a dream...

If anyone other there wants to work on a Shadowrun 5th ruleset...

I agree with this and fully endorse it as well!!! The old FASA Shadowrun was an awesome system that I just never got to run much cause peeps seemed to prefer GURPS or Cyberpunk 2020 to Shadowrun. Pity really...I really dug all the background and work they did on it back in the day!

Actually it does not, yours is for the (new) World of Darkness, now known as Chronicles of Darkness, the system presents some differences.

Yes, this is a bug in this version of the ruleset, the frames of skills and advantages overlap each other.
I fixed this in the next 'wannaby-stable' version, but so far it is still unstable :o and has a few new bugs.
You can try it at your own risk, the link to the current betas is on the first page.

I'm a veteran oWoD Vampire player and after reading all these great posts, I'm wondering if there is a version for FGU, as it seems that all FG moves in that direction.

If so, could anyone be so kind to point me to the files/folder to download the pak and extensions for Masquerade and Dark Ages?

I apologize for not answering for a long time.
I continue to work on the ruleset, though not in as much active mode as before. It affects the fact that I, as a storyteller, am playing a game in the World of Darkness, plus a new job takes time.

In the development version, as usual, there are several nasty bugs :cry:, because of which I do not want to post as a stable next release (for example, the health links of the characters in the combat tracker are broken). Although some features that my players requested were added out of turn.
For the strong in spirit, I will update the latest beta version available in Google Drive on the weekend, although there are almost no visible changes, there is a lot of work under the hood.

I hope that soon after the New Year I will be able to release version 0.5 as stable. Well, or at least as not very broken :D.

Looking forward to the next updated Stable version...my players are loving this!

Man I remember when I began playing this in the 1990's...man I'm dating myself. Never thought we'd be able to really play this again since the guys and I have gone virtual (thanks to COVID originally...then just to the distances between us all)...and along came this ruleset!! I'm not a fan of V5 so this is giving us our fix.

Hello. Just wanted to say I love that you went in so much trouble to create all this, but there are very annoying bugs on latest version of Fantasygrounds 4.3.8.
I'm using the latest stable version of Wod20e.

For example, I just roll dices, errors. Please check the error below:

Another thing I don't understand, why isn't there blood pool or generation slot in the npc/pc character sheet?
Why can't we add more talents, skills and knowledge. One slot for each is really not enough. It's digital, so we should have almost no limit. It would be amazing also if they would sort alphabetically (with a button or automatically).

I don't understand also why when we have to enter the disciplines in a more page, rather than on a separate tab or under the skills.
That is really not practical.

Also, could you make the character sheet fonts a bit bigger, it is really too small on large displays, like 5K displays or retina displays. But maybe this is too complicated.
But at least, adding a visual space every 5 dots, so things get more visible. Yes, a red point appear starting at 6, but it is less ergonomic visually (I'm designer, so this is a professional opinion here, not a matter of taste).
Why no space for conviction, self-control, courage? We have plenty of space to enter it as text, but it could be cool to have it as a dedicated place.

Also it seems you have a crossover system. But I have not found a selector to decide if a PC/NPC is a vampire, a human, a ghoul, a werewolf, a mage and so on.

When I add an npc in the combat tracker, I get errors:

So, so far I can't use this ruleset to track combats. I can only use it to create NPCs how I can, write the scenario and use maps.

And what do you think about the ergonomic improvements I suggested. Please let me know. I'll be glad to help on the visual/ergonomic aspects of the ruleset if you want (but I can't help on any coding).

Thanks I got the ruleset to load as a GM...but when a player takes a character it just disappears and they can access it.

Strange.

With meldron's when a player takes a character they don't see any of the dots and can't add any though as the GM my character sheet shows the changes. It used to work but I guess its brown with he latest FGU updates or Corerpg updates.

Pity it's one of my favorite systems.

World of Darkness 20th Anniversary Edition Ruleset (Revive) for FGU

This ruleset doesn't let players see their character / modify their character and see the changes...only the host sees it.

Well the ruleset doesn't seem to work.
When my players join they can't get a copy of their character as it is. If they change it, it changes what I see as the GM but if I change it the Players don't see any difference.

I mean that's all find, but this mod was for WoD 20th edition not V5. (Or Rappan athuk for PF1E, or D&D 3.5 instead of only the 5E module :( )

If they would make the WoD20th edition content I know a lot of people who'd buy that stuff up in a heartbeat because we absolutely despise V5's system changes. Can't just convert the sheets either since there's some core mechanical differences the V5 designers implemented to basically force gameplay to fit the "style" they envisioned as "correct" for the game (nevermind that style of play being possible in prior editions).

V5 is more of an entirely different game (like chronicles of darkness, yuck) from WoD 20th (which is also very close to the prior revised edition, similar to D&D 3 > 3.5)

That's fair, if someone wanted to tinker with this ruleset to try and get it functional again. I know there's the foundry documentation, is there any particular section you think would be helpful to zoom in on getting started with that?

I was referring to the current license holder for the WOD20th edition. I believe Paradox Interactive is the current owner for most of the earlier editions. As for this, it might be best to see if any of the ruleset devs would want to take this on and start over.

Probably, I'll poke around a little working from the error logs it throws though. I'm no expert by any means but have spent a little time staring at error logs doing game modding which can get a little obnoxious. The one from FGU seems to provide fairly detailed information which helps in hunting down the problems (but of course, we shall see lol).

Not at all, it is said that the World of Darkness 20th Anniversary Edition Ruleset is not maintained anymore and that only the newest version of the rulebooks is supported in an official WoD Ruleset (i.e. v5). They never said it was the same or that it was backward compatible and it actually is a viable alternative if you want to play the game with the v5 rules instead of the v20, it still is the world of darkness.

Going to close this thread, since this ruleset is no longer supported by the author for many years, and it is no longer working.

Will revise the first post moderator message to note that the FG Store version supports a different version of the World of Darkness system than this one does. However, the one in the FG Store is the only official version supported by request of the publisher.
