View Full Version : Can This Be Used For HARP?

Hi folks,

I currently don't own any of the RMC books, so I'm wondering how similar is RMC to HARP? Is it close enough that I can shoehorn a HARP game in FGU with it?

I am not certain, but I do not think so. At least based on what I know about HARP (admittedly not that much), my understanding is that HARP is simpler than RM.

From ICE (https://ironcrown.com/system-comparison/):

However HARP and HARP-SF have potentially faster game-play than Rolemaster and Spacemaster. For instance, combat in HARP/HARP-SF is one roll resolution (unless you fumble) whereas combat in Rolemaster/Spacemaster is attack roll then critical roll.

..

If you like detail, gritty realism and multiple rule options to craft your own flavour of play, Rolemaster or Spacemaster are the games for you. If however you want a core set of rules that covers all the bases in a single book, and provides comprehensive but swifter, “high adventure” play, HARP and HARP-SF should be your first choice.

It sounds like they are quite different, someone more familiar with both might be able to comment though.

The RMC Ruleset for FG does come with the core books, however, they are only accessible within FG as Reference Manuals. Character Law, Arms Law, Spell Law, and Creature & Treasures are all included.

I have Companion I and Fantasy Weapons, but you can see the core books here:

Heh, yeah, I likely will for my completionism tendencies. I've played every version of RM except RMC. :D

I REALLY like HARP, however, so I'll keep hoping that either my ability to code suddenly manifests, or someone decides to code it themselves.

Have you checked out Against the Darkmaster (https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/498/view), which is heavily inspired by MERP?

I am not familiar with the details of HARP to be able to say whether the RMC ruleset would work for HARP. My guess is there would be enough differences that it would be problematic without creating an extension to handle the differences.

If you've used RM1/2, RMC will be easy to use. It's pretty much those just reworked a bit, but otherwise is fully compatible.

As I am looking it over, you are correct. Fantastic work on the FG stuff BTW.

Yes, RMC is mainly just a rebranding of RM2. They changed some of the organization but the actual rules are basically RM2 with minor changes.
