View Full Version : How Will the MSRD for FGII Work?

In this helpful post,

Thore explained how DA's CSRD for FGII works. Will DA's MSRD work the same way? I am asking this question because I am getting ready to tinker with my own ruleset to enable Darwins Word 2 -specific rules, but I don't want to duplicate any changes that DA is already implementing with their soon-to-be-released MSRD.

I am particularly interested in learning if the MSRD will be making any changes to the combat tracker and PC sheets, such as changing Armor Class (AC) to Defense Class (DC) or in the way that the PC sheets and combat tracker process feats (because Darwin's World 2 has a plethora of mutant feats).

Any insight at this early stage would be greatly appreciated. Of course, if I were the patient sort, I could just wait until the MSRD is released, but I have itchy data-entry fingers and I would like to get a head start so I can be up and running as soon after the MSRD is released as possible.

Thank you.

Hello,

Thore asked me to look at your post so here I am!

In contrast to the CSRD the MSRD is a complete ruleset, (I am currently pulling my hair out trying to get psionics to work), but that is not important right now....

The MSRD is like CSRD in that it is the complete MSRD rules (modern, future , urban arcana and menace manual srd rules).

To save typing a lot of information I will post up some pictures (please note that the graphics you see are ones I did myself and it is very likely that these will not be in the finished version)

Full screen : https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/Fullscreen.png

This shows the current layout of the rules in four modules (this may change).

It also shows that MAS and action points has been added to the combat tab of NPCs, and reputation, allegiance and action points have been added to the main tab of the character sheet.

Character sheet combat tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/CharSheetCombat.png

Updated Defence labels (although I've noticed it still says armour class :o)

Skills tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/CharSheetSkills.png

Feats tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/CharsheetFeats.png

Inventory tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/CharSheetInventory.png

Wealth has been added (but coins have been kept for games that do not use wealth).

Spells tab has not changed.

Psionics tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/CharsheetPsionic.png

This is currently what I am working on and will most likely change.

NPC other tab: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/NPCOther.png

Reputation and allegiance added.

Strong hero: https://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r194/doswelk/StrongHero.png

This shows the character description from the strong hero.

Well that's about it really, as you can see it is a complete ruleset (like SW) rather than just modules.

Hope that helps....

Wow. Really. Wow. This will be great!

It looks like I will not need to do much of anything with the character sheets or combat tracker to get FGII to play nice with DW2.

Do you have any recommendations for how I might best go about starting to add my own mutant feats module? Is there a finished (or near-finished) format for how the MSRD will handle feats that I can use to enter in new ones, so that when the MSRD is released, I can plug-n-play my DW2-specific set into it?

Thanks a million. I can hardly wait to buy a copy as soon as it is released. :)

P.S., In addition to the format for feats, it would also help to know if the format for monsters and and equipment are settled-enough for me to begin typing up the data.

By the way, if these questions are asking too much right now, please don't hesitate to tell me so. I don't want anyone to feel like I am asking for proprietary information to be leaked early. I can wait for the MSRD to be released if necessary.

Are you planning on doing the Urban Arcana or d20 Future sections of the Modern SRD? If so, will these be included in the MSRD release, or will they be separate?

Is there a release date of the MSRD?

Valarian: Regarding your question about urban arcana and future, see Doswelk's first reply:

cbradshaw007: Digital Adventures hasn't announced a release date, but according to this thread:

https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5907&highlight=2007

It is scheduled for release after Arcana Evolved and Iron Heroes, so I would bet that we still have some months to wait yet.

Ooops, I missed that. Thanks.

Will I be able to import personalities, monsters, treasure, campaign books, and other data from my d20 campaigns into MSRD games, or will I need to enter all of this data again into new campaigns that I create with the MSRD ruleset?

I suspect you will need to manually transfer the items over by editing the xml files, I have not tried this myself as I just use the MSRD ruleset....:(
