Hello!

I gifted myself the FGU Ultimate Licence this hollyday and i allready have some 5e books in the software (and hardcover) The PHP the DMG, Starter Set and some adventures.

But i have never DMed since one game of 3.5 ages ago.

So i have some questions on the software.

Does it adjudicate succes and failure by itself or does the DM tells the players. Like: Do a skill check against dc 15 *player rolls* you did it. or Skill Check software tells me if its an success.

Welcome to FGU.

FG doesn't adjudicate skill rolls but it does adjudicate saving throws, attack rolls and damage rolls. So the DM would tell the player whether they passed or failed a skill roll (or not tell them they failed and leave them guessing :))

Jump in and try. Join a one-shot, watch videos, or start up your own campaign and start a second instance of FG and connect to your own game like a player. See ow it works, don't forget to read the user manual though!

Almost every opposed roll is automatically adjudicated - if its a roll against a DC 13 then this is not.

The GM can trigger ability checks, saves and skill checks against a specified DC for the whole party from the Party Sheet.

The main gotcha here is that the system rolls the test - some players don't like that, they prefer to roll their own checks. That said, it can still be a very handy tool for the GM to make secret rolls for the whole party - click the eye icon to the left of the checks to hide them from the players; the players will see shadow dice rolling but don't know what for.

Rules for Sidekicks are also included in the Essentials Kit. But you can still run them in FG without owning either product, if you know the rules to use. You might want to create custom classes to make levelling them easier, but you don't have to.
