Could we please have a settings option to continue to use the old buttons? These "new" drop-down menus remind me of 2000's era dynamic websites - I really dislike them.

Feature requests go on the Wish List; https://fgapp.idea.informer.com/

But I'm pretty sure the devs answer is going to be no. As they are continuing to work on overall improvements to the UI. See these discussions for more info on this exact topic.

More like a feature un-request. It baffles me why UI changes aren't implemented as options that would give users more choice over how things worked rather than less. And I have very, very little faith in the wish list, given the top request on the original list one was rejected in favour of a request much further down.

Those treads explain in detail, if you wade through the chaff, why the change was made. Agree with it or not. As for the Wish List, the most votes don't always get implemented. Sometimes they are not technically feasible or would require more resources than would make business sense or conflict with other priorities. Its a wish list, not a feature road map.

You're very much missing the point. This is "FFS give us choices" not "FFS never change anything!"

I'm not questioning why it was done, enough people are posting they like the change, to make it clear why. There's also enough people posting they don't like the change to indicate a choice would be good. I'm questioning why there can't be a checkbox to keep the old method. I know just enough about javascript, html, and css to know that it's not a mammoth undertaking to turn an array into either a menu or a set of buttons, and also skip items 1, 3, and 5 in either case. I can't imagine it would be that much more difficult with xml and unity. Hell you couldn't do custom themes if you can't change the appearance of the software, so WotC theme 1 and theme 2 could also work?

No, I understand your point. It's just useless for me to take sides. I can't speak for SmiteWorks. Maybe they are working on doing such. Maybe they don't think it's important enough. I do know that it would probably be considered a feature request and they have always asked the community to use the Idea Informer wish list for the community to let them know such requests and to allow the community to indicate how widespread such a request is by voting on the ideas there.

I also know there is at least one community developer working on an extension for the sidebar. As well, I'm pretty confident that SW is well aware of these threads and the diverse opinions over this change. In fact, I suspect they expected such and made a decision not to implement an option.

Just in case you missed Moon Wizard's recent post about that where they explain the process and why more options can be difficult to have: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?71673-Sidebar-width&p=632160&viewfull=1#post632160 :)
