View Full Version : Characters can see LOS from some tokens they click on

Out of town for a week so I can’t attach a campaign right now, but shouldn’t really need to for this one.
Last game session I had I had some tokens dropped on the map to represent objects. These were not tied to actors in the CT. One was in a hallway t-junction.
Players found that if they clicked on the token, they’d gain line of sight as if they were that token, effectively allowing them to see around corners.
Steps I think would reproduce:
1. Make a map with a T-junction and LOS. For purposes of this test make the whole map fully lit.
2. Put a player in a hallway so they can see the intersection but aren’t in it.
3. Add a non-player/non-NPC token to the map such as by dragging one from assets. Put it in the intersection.
4. Have the player click on the token. Lighting permitting, they can now see down a perpendicular branch of the T-junction as if they were that added token.

That is correct. Currently, any random tokens added to map have vision and can be selected/edited by players. Since random token adds are sometimes used by players to represent spell effects and other objects; players can interact with them. And, currently all tokens have vision. While this is something we want to adjust in the future, that is how it works currently.
So, if you need a graphic that can't be interacted with as a player, you will need to either add directly to map using image tools; or set up token as foe on the combat tracker.

Hello. I had the same issue with tokens I added to represent some crates. I thought it would be cool to have moveable objekts that the players could interact with to create cover etc.. Man was I surprised when a player saw the crate outside of his LOS, clicked it and revealed the mobs I had placed around it..
Now I've resorted to make a map-folder called "items" and then add images into it from the Assets section. Then you have moveable and scaleable items in separate layers. It's clunkier than having tokens, but it adds to the realism that you can add "walls" to items like shadowcaster and terrain. Now if there was an option to link a wall-layer to an image layer so that you could move both as one action if a player decides to pull the crate along.

Couldn't you simply add a "take/apply ownership" tag to tokens much the same way you do characters? Default GM ownership.

LOS elements can be put on an image layer, just have the image layer active when you add the LOS elements. You will see that it then gets the LOS icon in the layer list and you can control tose LOS elements separate from the others.
