View Full Version : FGU not compatible with VPN connection?

I sometimes have to travel for my work, when this happens I need to be able to connect to FGU through a wireless connection as well as our RPG-Discord server. As I am on a semi-public WiFi (hotel) I use my OpenVPN quite a bit, however I have discovered that I cannot connect to the List Servers if that VPN is active.
Once I disconnect from my VPN, List Server shows up normally and I can easily connect to our server.
Has anyone else experienced this and is there a means to use VPN and still have connections through FGU?

I used to all the time with FGC. For FGC and I assume FGU their is a requirement that your VPN allows (I think) port forwarding (?). Not all VPNS allow this and therefore that may be your issue. I used PureVPN with the dedicated IP option and I know many others used to as well. Haven't heard it talked about with FGU.
Note, with your existing VPN, have you tried a LAN game and given your players your IP?

@Donavyn - I assume by "list server" you mean that when you go to "Join Campaign" on the FGU startup screen that you don't see any games listed in the "Join Cloud Game" section of the window?
If this is the case, have you tried entering the GM name in the "Join by GM Name" field? If this fails, please upload your log files, this might give some idea of at which point your connection is being blocked - information on that here: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1242136781/How+to+Compile+Logs
I'm not familiar with OpenVPN, but you could try changing the VPN connection endpoint to somewhere else, changing the VPN connection type, etc..

My VPN is hosted on my network using PiVPN, so I'll take a look to see if I can configure port forwarding.

You shouldn't need port forwarding to connect to a cloud game.

I'm not sure what PureVPN was doing with the dedicated IP option, but I don't think you need to configure a set port forward, but rather that the VPN needs to allow forwarding of connections. But, That's beyond my knowledge level of VPNs.
