Hey there Im the GM for my group and recently my hard drive failed and I lost my campaign data, Do i need to get my players to restart with new PC's or is there some way for them to at least recover their character sheets?

Unless you have backup of your campaign folder stored somewhere else, like in cloud drive, USB etc., you have to start from scratch. I am not sure if there is option to salvage something from client's caches.

Your players should have a copy of their character cached locally. The easiest way to access them is for each player to create a new campaign using the same ruleset as your campaign and then use the "Import Character" button (bottom left of the Characters window) - this will display a list of all of their characters in all of their campaigns. From there it's just a case of finding the right character and clicking the plus symbol in the top right of that character.

Once you have your campaign up and running again, they can just repeat the process to import their character into your new campaign.

Please note that in theory they might be able to import the character directly into your campaign, but doing it locally first should avoid the possibility of the cached copy being overwritten when they connect to your new campaign.

Yes, as humby described :) That changed with FGU, as a replacement of FGC's character manager :) (the character manager was also basically just using the cache; so, also FGC were basically already able to do this)
