is it possible to assign a custom width to columns beyond just the colspan attribute in the db.xml? Such as a pixel range or percentage?

If you are referring to formatted text control tables, you can hold CTRL and '+' to increase and '-' to decrease column size while inside of the cell in question.

Sadly no. You can't assign % or px.
