unable to import character from hero lab

when i try to import a character as an xml file, i get an error that says import: missing root node and the import fails.

suggestions?

Can you provide the XML file you are trying to import, as well as which game system you are trying to import into?

Are you attempting to import that using the import from the character select screen?

If so, FG wont' accept it. It would need to be set up or converted into something FG recognizes. The structure of the xml file you provided doesn't match one FG uses.

This file appears to be exported from HL using File -> Save Custom Output -> Fantasy Grounds, and the resulting file had an extension of .hlfg

The hlfg files were used by an FG Classic character converter application. That application is unfortunately not provided for FGU, and is no longer supported for FGC.

Note, if you can't get it working for HL importing from PCGen is still working fine.
