I was wondering if there might be a way someone could make fantasy grounds into an overlay. When I play online with my friends, we normally go straight fantasy grounds but when we game in person at times we use talespire for our maps and fg for the other features. I thought it would be nice to have a way to make the background of fg transparent or use an overlay. Could also work if there was a way to broadcast things from fg.

You can set the map in Fantasy Grounds to the background. Many people use FGU in person games and use a client instance for the map either projected onto a flat screen positioned on a table or on a second screen. Lots of information in this (rather long) thread. It's all about Classic but the principles would be the same for Unity https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?25600-Using-FG-at-the-tabletop

Thanks. It still uses the 2d maps from fg though instead of the 3d maps in Talespire.

Ah, ok. I’m not familiar with talespire so that aspect passed me by.

I would experiment with OBS studio, there are settings and effects to make things transparent and such, other than that, I cannot imagine anything else that would work with mixing and matching focused windows, especially with only one screen.
