A "Wishlist" of items you'd like to subscribe to in the future (such as when you have the funds to spare) would be really nice. I just saw a bunch of items I'd really like to get, but I don't have the money right now.

For an extension at least I'd like to see it extract and post the version number on the Manage Craft page and possibly on the Forge Item page as well

Would like Forge to display the currently-approved text for an item in the store while a new update to that text is pending approval.

Right now, if an author has an item in the store but then find a typo in their description to fix, or add some more text due to an update or whatever, users get an "Item Not Found" page when clicking the link for that store item until the new text is approved. This can be a very confusing experience to end users and also pretty annoying if you're trying to subscribe to a mod that happens to be in the middle of a description change.

Sterno
July 28th, 2021, 06:44
Would like Forge to tell me whether the item is "Data" or "Vault". I understand that the author could change it at any time on me, but without Forge telling me this info, I'm just going to end up private messaging any author I wish to purchase from first.

Would like some criteria on what the different "Product Types" are so I can better determine where the items I author should go. For instance, I have no idea what the difference is between a "Free Supplement" and an "Accessory" that happens to be free.

when a user is logged in, and on the Forge.fantisygrounds.com page... it continues to show LOGIN as a menu opttion, and actually lets the user login. .. and again, and aagin. a few people are so frustrated that the Forge "isn't letting me login, no matter how many times i try".

simply because the page doesn't hide the Login option on the loginmenu... if they are already logged in.

sure, have Logout. thats perfect, but for goodness sake .. hide LOGIN.

Absolutely, this.
There's no indicator on the page whether a user is logged in or not, actually it makes it always look like a user is never logged in.

As far as I can tell you can't even see that menu option if you aren't already logged in. So if you are seeing it you are logged in. The name of the menu option might need changing (to Log out maybe) if it's causing you confusion.

It's not causing "me" confusion more as it's against any established pattern in any website. If you go to Amazon, Outlook, Gmail, PornHub (yes, even there) or, heck, any website in the world wide web where you can have an account, you won't see a button inviting you to login if you are already logged in. Breaking a pattern that every internet user follows since the dawn of the internet is not helping new users to understand how to navigate the page.
User Experience matters, for these things. Even more so if you notice that even the forums change "login" into "logout" once you're logged in - someone coming from the forums to the Forge for the first time will assume that the Forge works "the same way" as the forum (and it is a fair assumption to make), only to be well disappointed as soon as it ends up in a loop trying to login multiple times because he keeps seeing the button that says "login" instead of "logout".

Does the Forge allow for gifting a product or gold? I run a fairly active community and want to buy all our GM's either some gold or a product of their choice, is that possible? If not, please add this to the wish-list.

i know you have your reasons, but i wish the forge allowed for actual currency instead of the 500 gold min. there are products for sale that are less than that. and some products are not worth $5. I love the forge but i hate this fake currency at fixed amounts. i know that paypal doesn't allow you to make smaller payments without a penalty but most of these paid for ext were on dmsguild that allowed exact currency so it would be nice if this is in the plans for the future.

I would like to see a better standard on which exts/products work with what rulesets.

Example. I want to see stuff that works for 5E. However, I wont see a lot of the products that work for 5E because it will only show the ones that are only 5E. (Like things listed in CORE)

For those of us with a brand, the ability to set a display name instead of the forum user name?
And perhaps to go with that, a branded catalogue page for that account? Similar to how DriveThruRPG.com has a merchant “home page” as a part of their store where the merchants own items, are displayed with a fancy header banner and description text to help promote the merchant and their wears to users who want more products just from that merchant.

For example, currently my product is listed as being created by Tailz Silver Paws (https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/crafter/25/view-profile). I would prefer it to display Studio WyldFurr. While clicking on my crafter name will take you a page that displays my other products, this could be the “merchant home page” displaying a banner graphic, short description or welcome note, and list of products (would be nice to include a category filter too).

THE FORGE is a great idea by the way. Do you have a snappy logo for it that crafters can use on their web sites to help drive traffic?

All you do is write out the dollar amount and then remove the decimal point. For example: $2.50 is 250 gold, $4.00 is 400 gold, $5.99 is 599 gold, etc..

Unfortunately, we can't do that because it would violate our agreement with Valve/Steam. You can't include any links to an alternate storefront.

When trying to add an item that you do not have sufficient funds for, only an error is given. A pop up option to redirect to the Treasury to buy more gold funds would make spending money easier :)

Also, the ability to buy in other increments, or to buy multiple packs would be nice. i.e. buying 10 dollars worth is annoying :)

Product Ratings, it is impossible to tell which products and what value you have rated a product at. Several ways to handle this, but one would be to change the color of the stars if you have rated an item, and to show what you rated them on mouse over or similar.

Yes, most login functionality will replace that login tag/button with the user name of the person logged in so they know at a glance that they are logged in and which account it is (in case they have more than one or more than one person uses the computer).

PS for those who don't know, UI refers to the User Interface itself (the buttons, images, etc). UX stands for User Experience which include the UI but also includes esoteric things like the flow, how the interface feels, number of click to access features, and how "user friendly" it is. So, UX encompasses the whole functionality and usability of the UI.

My Wishes for Forge:

1. Preview before submission to approval.
2. Either allow images in the text area (you can drop images but on submit they vanish) or remove the drop function.
3. Allow change of price without approval.
4. Add a "sale" method. 25% off ect. No approval needed. Adds a sale banner / category maybe.

Hi :)

In some discussion with Bmos and MrDTT there was the following outcome: In general I'd like a better communication towards the users about incoming updates, the update button becomes red for a lot of things, leading to confusion of users about what actually got updated (and also confusion about where to read about patch notes; the release notes button in the FGU launcher only leads to client updates now, not to ruleset, module or forge updates). Would it be possible to add a pop-up listing all updates after an update happened, either with description or a link towards the forum about those? In regards to the forge it may be nice to have a pop-up listing which forge items got updated and then it could also list links to their forum threads where one can read about their patch notes. (Then it may be a requirement for all Forge crafters to create forum threads for their items? This may also simplify the communication of users to the devs if there are designated forum threads since every user has access to the forum)

Thanks :)

Best wishes

Kelrugem

PS: I just mentioned also other possible updates in that pop-up window feature because it may be suitable for all, not just the forge updates :)

It would be cool to have a Discord channel, blog post, or some other automated feed that announces new Forge items as they come out (for their first release... probably not updates). We've already got Discord channels for youtube updates, reddit updates, new releases in the store, etc... and it would be cool to see what new Forge items drop without having to manually check and sort by item all the time.

HywelPhillips
August 12th, 2021, 13:50
I concur with the automated notification idea.

Would it be better just to default to sorting by newest first on the forge (as on the shop) though? That would remove the need for the automated notifications for me.

More flexibly, why not have the forge and/or store remember our preferred search/display settings?

Cheers, Hywel

One thing I would like is being able to see what format the item is for on the item page itself, other than hoping the creator says what it is for, it should be required. Like is it core, 5e, pf etc.

Attached an example how you can click on something and not know which gaming system/ruleset it's able to be used for.

It would seem like there should be a box or something on here that must be filled out correctly to denote what it's for.

I'm not a Forge crafter so I don't know how it works in and out, but can't you simply use an upload-release-asset action, specifying the URL to upload to and how to authenticate on the Forge? Using your browser's developer tools you should be able to see what's the upload URL in the Forge page.

I'm not a Forge crafter so I don't know how it works in and out, but can't you simply use an upload-release-asset action, specifying the URL to upload to and how to authenticate on the Forge? Using your browser's developer tools you should be able to see what's the upload URL in the Forge page. That's pretty interesting! I'm not sure how it will work with the Forge site since the individual item pages don't have their own URLs, but I bet there is some sort of identifier that could be passed along to get the upload to the right place.

Ok I like the donate button on the view-profile page but I think it could use a bit more clarity on the donate page that pops up. It is unclear on the initial page whether or not the donation is split 90:10 (donatee / Smiteworks). If you click the adjust donation down button then it appears. Just for transparency sake it seems wise that the slider is there by default. I think the slider is important but worth having it more clearly displayed.

Definitely would be nice to have the OP updated with wish list requests or, better yet, I think for the forge, there should be a "forge wish list" on informer.com where people can vote on things like there is for the FG main app (i.e. https://fgapp.idea.informer.com ) -- having a page like that for the forge would allow for the devs to see what the most popular wish list items are and could better prioritize the "needs" vs the "wants" (which is what the votes help do) - just a thought SmiteWorks.... thank you for listening.

For crafters, I think it imperative to be able to see sales reports. Not just items sold like you can under "Transactions", but a full accounting.

Also, in cases where revenue is split, those recipients of monies should be able to track that as well.

I concur with Gwydion's request (on the FG Discord) about having messages go to our email RATHER THAN a private message on the FG forums.

ThanX for the consideration Forge Team!

Some other authors may even prefer something else as communication, I think; maybe it would be a good idea to allow crafters to add some text in their forge profile? I mean sites like this: https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/crafter/2/view-profile :) One could allow crafters to add some text/introduction/bio etc. there, also maybe clarifying any preferred way of communication?

(the disadvantage may be that users may not look there; then a crafter could just clarify such things on the page of each forge item)

Does not have to be red or green dots, could be different icons, ticks and crosses, or eye icons. The idea is to easily tell which products are active in the marketplace and which are not.

This will be in the next update, adding an active column to the items table on the manage craft page, using a check for active, and an x for inactive for the meantime. Note that this will count items in which there is only a test build and no live builds as active as well, as that is how the system is currently set up.

Note, this is a wish only for the forge. i.e. what enhancements can be made to make the forge itself more useful/valuable.

Enhancement requests for things like this would probably best be made in the ruleset sub-forum (i.e. Savage Worlds right?); https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?57-Savage-Worlds

But they might also be ok made in the Idea Informer, though this is mostly for core FGU capabilities; https://fgapp.idea.informer.com/

On the 'items' page?

I reckon the Forge developers should just copy the Sales Reports section from DriveThruRPG and replace the 'translations' page with it.

It is nice to see each individual transaction, but in the overall scheme of things, not much use. All your really after is how many of each item has sold for the quarter, and the gross totals. Having a chart similar to the 'Sales Report' for 'Month to Date' similar to that in the DriveThruRPG system would be fantastic.

Yes I agree, I think not being able to browse the forge when not logged in will be losing a bunch of casual browsers.

On a side tangent, the designer in me would love to see the forge index page turned into a landing page with a header graphic promoting a new product, or perhaps something us developers could 'bid' for to have a banner in rotation much like DriveThruRPG's featured product message area. With bid points gained from sales.

Tell you what, just copy a bunch of functions from DriveThruRPG. LOLz :D

I'd love to see an option to change ownership of Forge entries.
As extension developers leave/arrive in the community, sometimes new devs take over older extensions.
Providing a path for the previous author to transfer the existing listing to the new dev stands to really improve the user experience.
This would ideally include the ability to share ownership with multiple people to facilitate collaboration, but could be as simple as just transferring totally to another author.

What do you mean by syntax options?

I may be wording things poorly but basically extensions that further effect phrasing or wording.
As an example using Capital Gains extension

"The following syntax additions have been made for effect processing:

[CURRENT(n*Resource Name)] - When the effect is applied this notation will be replaced with the current value of the named resource, multiplied by n. n is optional.
[SPENT(n*Resource Name)] - When the effect is applied this notation will be replaced with the amount of the named resource that has been spent this turn, multiplied by n. n is optional.
CURRENT(n*Resource Name) - When the effect is evaluated this notation will be replaced with the value of the named resource, multiplied by n. n is optional.
SPENT(n*Resource Name) - When the effect is evaluated this notation will be replaced with the amount of the named resource that has been spent this turn, multiplied by n. n is optional......."

example from Skip Turn extension

"Add the effect SKIPTURN (case-insensitive) to any character (PC or NPC) to automatically skip that character’s turn when advancing the combat tracker."

example from 5e Absorb Effect extension

"ABSORB: damagetype This effect will trigger whenever the creature receives damage of the specified damage types. You can include multiple damage types in a list separated by a comma. When damage of the specified type is received, the creature will instead be healed for that amount. "

My wishlist is better information about what is updating.

I see random text string updating from the forge but I have no idea what it is, and no way to find out. Taking this a bit further, even if I did know what was updating I have no idea why it was updating. Is there a change to something that would be good to know about? Did the author add some effect that would dramatically speed up play? Was there a bug fix, random change to theme? I mean who knows.

Especially with big gold items like C&C using the forge it seems like chaos on the horizon.

I think it's been mentioned before, but can the FGUUpdater show the names of the extensions that are being updated, rather than the meaningless UUIDs, please?
We're not all developers and your Average Joe will never figure out that in order to understand what extension has received an update they need to go to the logs, grab the UUID and slap it in the URL of the Forge to see what extension it is. UUIDs are for devs, not for users.
Sometimes extensions break, so knowing which extension has just been updated would also speed up the process of reporting bugs and declutter the House of Healing - Unity forum.

I'm just talking about "Manage Craft", not within the store. I understand why the storefront may want to have limitations, but I cannot figure out any good reason why CRAFTERS should want their list limited. It's a real pain to have to adjust that EVERY SINGLE TIME I go back to that list looking for a title beyond the initial 10.

I have a number of extensions and is a pain to identify which extension relates to which store item - or whats recently been updated.

I would like a log somewhere of what forge was downloaded/updated that can be reviewed after the update event (keep that last months worth if updates?) that can be looked at via a click on the FG loader screen. After all the information goes off the screen in a blink of the eye...

For a list to be maintained - when you perform an FGU update, all you need to do is to grab an index of the module name, the file/uuid name, as well as a URL to the store item. This can then be used to track what forge items referes to which..

ColinBuckler
March 11th, 2022, 11:43
How about a separate button to click to update Forge items just like the normal update button.

This would would in the same manner as the current "Check For Updates" which would give me the GM the option to download new extensions..etc before a game (or not) without having any nasty surpriuses in the game due to broken extensions. I believe the advice used to be "do not update extensions before a game" but this is no longer possible with a single button.

Also, can we have the option to retain previous versions og extensions so that we can revert if required. Yes I can hear you saying this will be a problem, but not really its very easy as you apply this simple process to retain 3 previous versions:

if exist "extension.ext.003" delete "extension.ext.003"
if exist "extension.ext.002" rename "extension.ext.002" "extension.ext.003"
if exist "extension.ext.001" rename "extension.ext.001" "extension.ext.002"
if exist "extension.ext" rename "extension.ext" "extension.ext.001"
download "extension.ext"

We can the see which extension was updated, when (file date) and have the ability to revert back to a previous version by manually:

if exist "extension.ext" rename "extension.ext" "extension.ext.new"
if exist "extension.001" rename "extension.ext.001" "extension.ext"

I use a similar method often when I need to save a weeks worth of log files in a batch script.

Right now the FGU deletes anything in the Vault that is not on the current download list. Maybe moving the old extension version to a backup directory outside the vault would remedy this the easiest / quickest.

When updating files, there's no way to see what files exist on any one title. I've had to memorize (for lack of writing it down) all 30 (and growing) titles and is there just an extension or is it an extension and a module. So when I go to upload I have to upload ALL the files and am prone to missing one.

I can think of two solutions.

1) Have a list view available of files in the current build (and be able to see and verify after upload)
2) Be able to upload just the file in question being updated and have it replace that file only keeping the others intact (and have a way to delete files if necessary)

Alternate search terms.
Right now there's a very fine line to walk between having a unique name and having a searchable name.
For example my "Extraplanar Containers" extension which didn't show up when searching for "Bag of Holding" until I added it to the name, despite "bag of holding" being in the description.
Since searching every description is probably excessive, perhaps just let us add 1-2 "alternate names" people can search for?

Same as free, but you need to enter 0 as the price.
Encourages people to pay for it, but doesn't require it.

Normally, your stuff will be in the uncategorized group. If you previously shared the image, you can toggle it to show only shared images.

I am not sure if this has been requested yet or not. But on a user's store page, the ability to display items in sections or categories? Instead of just a jumble of projects.

For example, in my stuff, I could have a Virtual Tabletop Tokens section, a Map Tiles section, and an Adventure Modules section?

We can look into this for a future revision of the site, but we don't have a major development cycle planned for the Forge in the near term. There is an option to manually set the sort order for items in your store currently, though. You could use this to group and sort your items in similar categories if you want.

When searching for a specific product based on core rules the Publisher products are buried by tokens and images in some cases. Is there anyway we can show those items as compatible but exclude them from publisher products? CnC is a great example. There are 6 pages of products but maybe 5 of those pages are just compatible products (tokens and images)

I think part of the problem here is that the product listing is horizontal, with each product having a wide band of space which literally buries other products under each product.

Maybe a better method to display products, may be to use a grid system?

Display the product splash image on top, followed by the title, then the small blerb?

The sort order will only affect your creator page. People will see that if they click on your name to see your other available products.

Not quite sure what you mean by this.

Well for instance what happened yesterday. A number of extensions where fixed but set to test. The ruleset changes go live and those extensions that are fixed are still sitting in test until the author sets them to live. This request would add an option that if an extension is set to test, to automatically change it from test to live when what is currently in test gets moved to live.

Currently, depending on the availability of the author, this process could take days if they are on vacation for example.

LordEntrails
July 13th, 2022, 18:06
Another way to think of it is to allow an extension author to mark a test build as ready for live. And then when SmiteWorks released the next live build, those extensions marked that way also get moved to live as well.

Wishes:

1) Have the option to "set" the number in the dropdown to a permanent number. Having 30+ items on the forge, it's always frustrating to have to open that dropdown and set it to 50 EACH AND EVERY TIME I search for something.
2) NOT include the owner in the number of subscribers. Although it's only one, it is technically off by one.
3) Have "Remove" functionality for royalty recipients. Currently, that has to be done manually by SmiteWorks.
4) Ability to "DELETE" previous promotional sales rows.
5) When refreshing a page (for example after uploading a build) you have to back out to the original front and re-drill back down to be able to make it live. Very tedious, it should just refresh.
6) Ability to email previous purchasers.
7) Owning 81 Forge titles, the need for the dropdown menu to eventually be more than 100 seems relevant.

ThanX to all who work on the backend of the Forge!

I discovered that if you are downloading more than 1000 entries in say EXCEL format, you have to download each page individually, whereas if you could list them all on one page, it would only be one download.

Sure you don't but there is bare minimum information about the extensions at the loader...and after it's loaded it's a back and forth with FGU and the loader...I use the Forge Inventory as a way to disable extensions that are definitely broken...so they don't show up in the loader...Now if the loader showed this information I wouldn't do this...but that's a whole different thread...

From my personal point of of view, because of the way (volume) gold is sold, crafters who sell for 499 instead of 500 are putting buyers into a position where they are going to have to buy 98 more 499 items to not end up with unspendable amounts of gold. I see several items for 499 that I would buy but decide not to buy because of this.

Why do we have ratings, if this is how they're going to be used?

To clarify, I know you can go to the item page and see a decimal rating which adds some minor additional information, but by the time you're basing decisions on whether a product is 4.1 or 4.4 stars you're basically reading tea leaves IMO.

You should be able to change personal ratings whenever, if you can't please let me know as that is intended. As for reviews, we determined in the current iteration it would be best to leave them to the forums, which is why crafters can link forum threads, so we don't put extra work on our moderation team.

I'd love to be able to use some of the more world specific regional languages (and currencies) that are part of even some of the published settings without having to go in to a specific campaign's Options and update those two sections in each campaign I run. My guess is that those two data sets are hardcoded (by ruleset?) so a simple replace by activating a module with new entries is not so simple on the coding side - but I thought I'd ask ;)

@ShadeRaven,

Those are designed to be modified by extensions. Also, both the languages/currencies are set up once on campaign creation, and can be further customized by the GM to fit their campaign. Those data areas are not meant to be "loaded" into by modules. If anything, we would have to look at it like presets (similar to the way "calendars" work now). That would be a feature request on the site in my sig.

I was hoping to graph new users per extension over time (since the forge site doesn't give that sort of info) but I don't really want to download 242 100-item CSVs and compile them.

EDIT: I figured out how to get one from the web interface!
1. Open Manage Craft
2. Right click and click Inspect
3. Find <option value="100">100</option>
4. Right click that line and Edit As HTML
5. Change 100 to a number greater than the total number of entries
6. Click the #/page dropdown and select the new number you added
7. Use the normal CSV button to download

Now I just need to figure out how to graph this data...

In the Inventory section, please add Last updated date. It is horrible to check when extensions were updated without going into single one of them.

Quoting this request. It would be awesome.

I would like these three search feature requests:

I cannot search my inventory so I always need to set it to "Show 100" I would like to be able to do a search of items in the Inventory, Hidden, Purchase History, & Pending Gifts
Related to this, if I search for a Forge item in the main Shop and I already have it 'owned' it will not show up. I would like this to still be displayed with a 'owned' flag if possible.

In the FGUpdaterEngine.log Forge items are always shown by their UUID or .ext file name, which rarely ever matches their Item name. I don't see the .ext files anywhere but I do see the UUIDs on almost all of the pages, can the search be updated to look for UUIDs in addition to the name?

Thank you.

Make sure you set the Show Owned flag under the search filters.

Ah, I was not aware of that flag, that helps for the first part, thank you.

We desperately need some way to organize our creator page. Once you've listed 10+ items, it becomes a mess to use it as a promotion page, as it's just a long list of products.

Categories of products, or even a "most popular" banner of some sort would be a huge help.

You can change the display priority of items on your page to help group them if that helps in the meantime.

I searched but couldn't find how the donation feature works exactly.

If someone makes a donation on a product page, is that given to the crafter as 100%?

Is the donation split between the revenue recipients?

How EXACTLY does that work?

90/10

90/10

Is this an answer to my query about donations?

90/10 doesn't really answer all of my questions.

In other words, is it a straight donation to the crafter, or is it like a purchase and the revenue recipients all receive their share as well?

A straight donation to the crafter, with no item attached, goes straight to the crafter. A donation to an item is split between the royalty recipients.

Would it be possible to add to the "Manage Craft" page, or if not, create its own page where you can edit the "Display Priority" number of all items simultaneously? It would be really nice to quickly reorganize those rather than having to open every item individually.

Repeat for earlier suggestion: Wishlist
Would like Wishlist for main store as well, but couldn't find forum post asking for that. A wishlist for both would be nice. Then later, far future probably, a share wishlist for friends to see what you want and able to gift/purchase for you. Have had friends who want to pay for stuff for games while I was subbed, and even now, but don't want to just send cash (wouldn't want them to) to have me purchase the modules, rulesets, additions for a game for their character or something that they think will improve the game quality of life.

Thanks RavenSaint. A wishlist is something we are interested in adding at some point to the FG Forge and storefronts. In the meantime, the Personalized Suggestions is a more automated way of showing people what sort of things you tend to buy. You can share that link with people.

WebP support for Forge images would be great.
It seems like it is already supported, because the thumbnail appears when I upload it, but then it gives me error 400 which I assume is because of a file extension whitelist that doesn't include webp.

Still looking for:

* Ability to see (on the Transactions page or somewhere appropriate) any commissions earned from other crafters who have put you in as a Royalty Recipient.
* "Display Priority" Numbers displayed and editable for each item (on the Items page?)
* Currently uploaded File list displayed on the "Upload Build" page so you know what you're replacing.
* Ability to set defaults for shown entries on all pages where that applies

ThanX for the consideration on these improvements.

I would like to have a feature where you can put in filters then copy whatever you've filtered out to share with a friend. Right now, I have to tell my friend to fill in each form, with what I found for what I think would be helpful to him. I would prefer to skip that part and give him a link with "Here is a link with the filters already in place look at these store/forge items see if you want to buy/add them"

The ability to send update messages (email, forum message, etc) to product subscribers in regard to product updates/changes?

For example, if product X needs updating because of an error/bug/change/fix/whatever, the fix could be uploaded and a message generated to warn existing subscribers there is a change coming.

On the Promotional Sales page, having a "Calculate All" button would be nice instead of having to click each one.

Also, it would be nice to have the list display beyond 100 (perhaps an "All").

And, as shown, the sorting functions seem not to work.

"Pay what you can/pay what you want".
You can still get it for free, but you need to specifically choose 0 as the price.
This encourages people to pay for it, but doesn't require it.
There could also be a "default" price.
Going to quote myself here since we're coming up on two years and I would LOVE to see this someday.
