View Full Version : Shift + Tab Erasing Destination Fields

Hi,
not sure if this has been reported or not, however when I SHIFT+TAB , the destination of that action gets erased.
This occurs under any ruleset.
For example in CoreRPG, if you create a clean character and type a NAME then click in SENSES and type something there then SHIFT+TAB, the NAME gets erased.
If you do not retype anything, it is saved as blank in the database.
I have tested this with various rulesets: CoreRPG, SWADE, MoreCore, 5E, and others.
If this is the first time it has been reported, any ideas of how this can be fixed? Or is it in the pipeline?
Note: This seems to only occur with text fields not numeric fields.

I'm not seeing this behavior.
My methodology:
1. New CoreRPG campaign
2. New character
3. Go to appearance field on notes tab and type text.
4. Tab to notes field and type text
5. Shift-tab to appearance field
I have also tested in other areas:
Methodology:
1. Go to name field on notes tab and type text.
2. Tab to race field and type text
3. Shift-tab to name field. Original text stays there and is highlighted as usual. Typing replaces highlighted text as usual; using right-arrow to get cursor rather than highlighted text allows appending more text as usual.

Then it might not be happening for large text boxes.
Try:
1. New CoreRPG campaign
2. New character
3. Go NAME field on notes tab and type text.
4. Tab to RACE field and type text
5. Shift-tab to NAME tab

I actually did that also and edited it into my post right as you were posting your response :)

From my experience doing IT support, many people aren't aware of what happens when you type something while text is highlighted.
In macOS, Windows, and most linux distros I have used, the behavior is to replace any highlighted text with whatever you type. If you don't want this to happen, just press right-arrow to advance the cursor to the end of the highlighted segment or down-arrow to go to the next line/end of the current line. Then you will not have any highlighted text so you can append text to what is already there.
This is usually the default behavior for small text boxes where the contents are more likely to be replaced than appended.

I definitely do not have highlighted text.
I even have used the mouse to click into the boxes to ensure a blinking cursor etc.
There are no extensions/modules/anything loaded - they are raw campaigns.
I am on a Mac if that makes a difference.

Hopefully someone else with a Mac can confirm / this will get picked up by SmiteWorks devs.
