I'm trying to set it up so that my players see if they were hit or missed and how much damage they took (but hiding the actual numbers). I've got my options as:

Chat: Show GM rolls (Off)
Chat: Show results to client (On)

No matter what I sett the second one to (Show results...) nothing is show to my players when I attack with my monsters. I can show them EVERYTHING with Show GM rolls set to On, but I'd like to hide the actual numbers (bonuses and such).

Am I doing something wrong?

The "Show Rolls" option shows the actual dice rolls and modifiers to the players.
The "Show Results to Client" option shows when the total is applied to a PC.

As far as I remember, there is no option to hide the numbers completely.

The attached graphic shows the players output for the various options. (Note that this is different from what the DM sees).

So I think what you want is Set GM Rolls OFF and Show results ON. Or am I missing something?

The ruleset is AD&D 2e here. I've attached an image of what the player is seeing with the different settings. I attacked the PC once between each setting switch. As you'll see, they only time they get any kind of notification of having been attacked is when I turned on Show GM Rolls (the Show Results to Client isn't doing anything).

First image is player's perspective. Second is GM's.

My apologies. I missed that this was in the 2e ruleset thread. I just read the title.

You might want to experiment with the "Chat: Show results to client". I tweaked that a little for some different output 2E has but otherwise the system should be exactly like 5E. If Moon says you can't hide the numbers 100% then it's the same situation.

If I'm trying to hide stuff from players I turn GM rolls off and set "Chat: Show results to client" to "friendly".
