Relatively new to FG, and wanted to try and run a campaign for some buddies online. bought the ultimate edition and have been fooling around with it with one of my buddies when we ran into an issue. Everytime I try and share the map to the player, he cant see anything except for a black grid, even after his token has been placed and he clicks on it. He can see the token, but the rest of the map never loads. He cleared his cache and tried again as this https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?65961-Problem-with-maps-not-loading-for-players thread said to, but to no avail. Campaign is kinda at a standstill atm. Want to make sure in my inexperience we arent missing something simple.

Welcome to the FG forums.

Are you using FG Classic or FG Unity?

Do you have a mask on the map, or have lighting enabled and no light source on the map or on the token ?

It seems like the map just isnt loading in at all, but I could be wrong. Only part of the map has a mask, so he should be able to see the other, right?

Try turning Lighting Off

Moved to the House of Healing - Unity forum.

As damned mentions, turn lighting off. Unlock the image to get the image edit sidebar and click on "Enable/Disable Lighting" so that it is greyed out.

Hey guys I know this is an old post but just so new players GM as me know… in the map layers you will see a little eye icon in the map layer (it’s set as GM only view), you click there until you see “visible to all “ the icon will be an eye with a human icon. And to share the map to players, after you opened the map from you assets and set create image record, you click in the map with right click and select sharing and then click “share record”. Hope to help a lot of new GMs and old ones who didn’t knew about it.

More for new GMs: use this functionality to your advantage.

You can share maps and images ahead of time by setting "share record". The map will download when the player connects to your game. This means the player can see it before you're ready to reveal, however. (None of my players seem to know where the maps are, so I sometimes do this. They haven't figured it out yet.)

You can also "share record" on a map that's already shared to make it pop up on the users' desktops. Nice for when one of them inevitably closes it by accident and doesn't know where the maps are.

If LOS and lighting is turned on, players can't see the map anyway until they're dropped onto it from combat tracker. Use that to your advantage: share the map before you plop them down for suspense. Or to give dialog while the images download without revealing anything.

Also, players can't see the map if their tokens are not on the map image. You can drop the tokens outside the image border and they'll just see black. I do this sometimes to "stage" them. "You look into the darkness beyond the portal. Do you enter?" Then I move each one onto the map as they enter. Note that they can move their tokens but can't enter the map image. It's like purgatory; they can wander around in the dark but can't leave it.

You could add a disconnected small image on the map for staging, if you want them to look at something while they wait. It lets them discuss marching order, tactics, whatever before they can see the larger map. With LOS turned on, they can't leave the little map. GM: Remember to use Shift mouse drag to move tokens onto and off of map images.

Players can also double click on the token area of their character sheet to pop up the map that the token is currently on.

Make sure to relabel the visible image name though, something like Terrasque lair #27, or Equestria Forest #183, you know to strike terror into their hearts...
