View Full Version : Character & Modules missing on login

I have an odd issue that appears today. I updated my FGU client to the newest version 4.1.3 and joined a campaign that I've been a part of for several months and my character wasn't available to select. I also found that the Library was empty and there wasn't anything to select in the Modules. The rest of the group was logged and could see me but I couldn't see their icons. We were on Discord so I was chatting with them during the process. They could see when I typed into chat but I couldn't see my chat text. I could open the Party Sheet and Combat Tracker and see the characters and the enemies listed but since I could access my character. The GM released my characters and it was still not available for me to select. If I clicked on the create new character button it created the blank character sheet on the Character Selection window but I couldn't see it, the other players told me that it was there.

I deleted both the Smiteworks files and the Appdata file and downloaded and reinstalled. Still nothing.

The kicker is I have the same issue on two different computers.

Any ideas on what to do to fix this issue?

Hmm, totally random here...
- did you change your username?
- did you make sure you were logged in to FG in Settings?
- After the GM cleared ownership of your character, did you close and re-open the character selection window?
- after reinstall,
- - did you give FG time to download everything?
- - did you re-select which modules you wanted to load and wait for them?

It looks like you are logging in from a school or other campus. Is it possible that some security changes on their network are blocking you?

When that user is logged on, click on the icon for Form settings and click on Apply Authorizations or just tick manually the items you want displayed.

did you ever find a solution or reason for this behavior? I do have the exact same issue.

Typically it is a user error - firewall, anti-virus etc., so try those things first and if that doesn't fix it then make a new thread stating your problem and post your /console log file (not a paste of the text, upload the .zip file).

Thanks for answering Jiminimonka.

I tried all that with Zacchaeus and Moon Wizard on discord yesterday already.

Since I am able to connect and load everything when my MacBook gets the internet via my phone (I can not load my character when my MacBook or windows computer is connected via my router) … I narrowed it down to my router or the internet provider which are both not very promising angles.

Note that character ownership is sensitive to the case you use when logging in. (At least it used to, haven't tested in sometime.)

Even though I can log in with both "LordEntrails" and "lordentrails", if I take ownership of a character as "LordEntrails" but later log in as "lordentrails" I can not see the character I previously took ownership of. Have the GM Release Character and then re-open the Character Selection window

Thanks LordEntrails for the advice but I log into FGU with only one account in only one way to write and be er changed that.

The thing is that I am able to select my character most of the time but when I am not … there is no way of telling why or how it came to be or how long I can’t play.

Just in case it's a problem you could try clearing your cache before you next join your game. Go to the FG data folder and delete the folder within that with the name of the campaign on it. This is unlikely to be the issue but it's worth eliminating it.

I tried this a thousand times. I also wiped the setting as often. To no avail.

At this point I can only blame it on the router or the ISP.

It is definitely the ISP and/or router. That is proven by the fact that the connection works fine over mobile hotspot; but not through the home network.

You should definitely contact ISP and explain that you have a peer-to-peer application you are using which the router is interfering with, and that you need them to turn off packet inspection filters on the router.
