So I'm curious what everyone thinks of the new Troop units in Bestiary 3 and how to handle them within the confines of the ruleset here. Is there something planned on the horizon to allow linked token that share a HP value and defenses or something to more accurately portray the troop unit or will we just use the Gargantuan / Huge tokens for the most part and just theater of the mind or use some extra number tokens on the map for the weird shapes they can take on the battlefield before forming up?

What I did for a more contained troop on a battlefield was just to use a big square token with a picture of bunch of orcs. When the number of orcs would drop, I just dragged a new token from the assets to replace the one on the combat tracker and the map. So I started with a token that 4x4squares then replaced it with 4x3 squares and finally 4x2 squares. That's probably the approach you want to take if you have armies facing each other and don't care about the location of each individual that much.

I also had a more disorganized unit there and for that I just used a bunch of tokens on the map that weren't connected to the combat tracker at all. That troop in the combat tracker didn't have a token on the map at all.

It would be kind of cool to have some type of system that would automatically change the token on the unit based on specific conditions. Besides making it possible to automate the troop strength changes, it could be used to create more mmo-like boss battles with multiple phases and stuff. Although I suppose stuff like that doesn't come up so often that it would really be worth the effort...
