Can the image window be made any larger? If I ctrl click and drag it only goes so far...

Yes, but you have to modify the ruleset to do it. In adventure_images.xml, the definition for the "imagewindow" windowclass includes a setting for the maximum size of the window, set by default to 700 pixels each way maximum and 200 minimum.
