I use quite some extensions and modules, and would have liked an pre-vetted opinionated list with some info about them when I started using Fantasy Grounds. There wasn't one, so I wrote them myself, this one for extensions, and one for modules (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?69235-Modules-mini-reviews). The reviewed items are what I use, and they are compatible as far as I have used them. The review is very mini, and I will not try to solve issues of the extensions themselves in this thread. It's mainly a list with short comments. I did two four six eight quite a few of them. Tell me if you are interested in more. If you are just starting with Fantasy Grounds, start without extensions. Play a few times before slowly adding them to the mix. Don't dump them all in, it will make for awful cooking.

Some remarks:

All extensions are at least 5e, FGU and I haven't tested them otherwise.
The underscored items in a mini-review will one day become links to other reviewed extensions.
The dummy entries below will one day become mini-reviews.
Since multiple channels are used for publication, I do improvise a bit in the related fields. I will for example add the personal name of an author if that's useful. Like for finding the right Discord channel. Tell me if you prefer a different nomenclature.
I do edit the official description a bit to fit in with the rest.
I remove the term Fantasy Grounds from the name of the extensions/modules to keep things compact. I do leave any 5E mentions in there since that one is a bit sensitive at DMSguild.
Tell me if I made a mistake in linking. I did my best, but there are quite a few links to confuse.
English isn't my native language. Tell me if things get hard to read. I don't mind a few idiocracies.
I've added an affiliate link for DMSguild. That should bring in some coins to buy even more items to review. The hare should not overtake the turtle ;).

Official description
Players can become an Assistant GM and fully control Monsters & NPCs in D&D 5e!
This stand-alone extension was created for 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons, and its use in Fantasy Grounds allows a Game Master to grant full Monster & NPC control to any number of Assistant Game Masters or share monsters individually so players can easily control movement, targeting, and abilities.

This extension unlocks the following functions:

Assign one or more players an Assistant GM role, which unlocks:

Control of a Monster’s and NPC’s: actions, stats, movement, and abilities
End a Monster’s or NPC’s turn, switching to the next actor in combat


Grant Monster & NPC access on a monster-by-monster basis
Clear all defined users and access to all shared NPC access for everything in campaign.

Mini-review
This allows players to control some NPC's. FGC has some limited capabilities as well, but FGU doesn't. I did a few sessions where a player controlled part of the monsters. That helps preventing a hive mind like mentality for the monsters. I gave them the descriptions of the monsters, and the relevant section of http://www.themonstersknow.com/. I bought the digital version of the book. They played them with a better interpretation of the behaviour than I would have. Recommended if you like giving the players some extra interaction options with the world.

Compatibility
I haven't used this extension much, no issues so far. But like Silent Ruin says: extensions = RISK ;)

Official description
This extension alters the standard 5e modifier box to include buttons for some often used modifiers and moves the dice position. For attacks, this adds buttons to flag the attack as an Opportunity attack, or to indicate that the target has Cover or Superior Cover and applies the appropriate modifiers. For damage, this adds buttons to flag the roll as a Critical hit, or that it will do Max or Half damage. These rolls will all be modified appropriately.

Version A: Adds modifiers and dice in a single row.
Version B: Adds the modifiers and dice in a stack below chat and aligns the dice tower neatly together.

Mini-review
I quite like this. It provides easier access to some much used modifiers. Useful, but not necessary.

Compatibility
It makes the chat window overlap images in the background. Not an issue for me, but some might not like this.

Mini-review
A simple extension which is quite useful if you have the screen estate. My last session had quite a few skill checks. Having those on a separate windows is quite handy. Edit: I really have to quit using 'quite', but that's quite hard.

Compatibility
My muscle memory: you have to double-click.

Mini-review
Very useful if you have a Deck of Illusions or something similar. It allows you to draw cards from it. I added some nice imagery from the internet.

Mini-review
This is a bit a a strange duck, which can be a swan in the right circumstances. It allows you to group the NPC's and hide/show them on the combat tracker. I mainly use this to hide some NPC's while in combat (the mule, the treasure chest, etc.). Those can have an inventory when using both Map Parcel (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?68696-Extensions-mini-reviews&p=604489&viewfull=1#post604489) and Polymorphism (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?68696-Extensions-mini-reviews&p=604484&viewfull=1#post604484). Depending on your playing style, you can set up the entire population of the map in advance. I use pins for that.

Compatibility
Considering the complexity, I'll assume there are multiple issues, but I haven't encountered any.

Official description
This extension adds a number of different graphical indicators to PC and NPC tokens on a map. These indicators help both the DM and Players know what's going on at a glance.

The types of indicators this extension adds are:

Health Status - Shows how wounded the PC/NPC is by displaying a blood spatter image that gets progressively more intense.
Death Status - Shows when the PC/NPC is Dying, Dead, or Stable.
Saving Throw Results - Displays on each token the results of a saving throw. Whether they had a successful save, a save for half damage, or a failed save.
Initiative Indicator - Displays an indicator showing which token has initiative. This can make it easier to find the current token on the map.
Targeted Indicator - Displays an indicator on all tokens targeted by the current initiative holder. This can be especially helpful to make sure you are not targeting yourself!


Mini-review
See what's going on when targetting. My players tend to get confused, and this helps. Very useful. Nice helpful icons as well.

Compatibility
Works fine for me, but there will be incompatibilities for sure.

Extensions = RISK - just a friendly warning to all who plan to use any :)

I especially like where you state you should use raw FGU first before you try any extension. I'm a firm believer in only looking for an extension when something seems lacking to you personally in game (everyone is different). First, if you can, you should try to write your own so you have full control of the RISK involved with extensions (updates to FGU or using with other extensions can break any one of them). Next, if you can't do that, search for the many free extensions in this forum to see if they can meet your needs. And ONLY after all that should you look into buying any extension.

I actually use a RISK factor when I talk to people about extensions (mine or others). You count the number of extensions you have and square that number - that is your RISK factor you are taking on by using extensions IMHO. I have 7 that I use so my RISK factor is 49. Someone told me once they had 50 (and I've heard people with more) so they are taking on a RISK factor (of something outright breaking or subtlety causing some part someplace in FGU to no longer work) of 2500.

So, if you are willing to take on the RISK, extensions are very handy things. If you are not willing to take on the RISK - stay FAR FAR away from them. IMHO.

[Also a CON for any of mine listed here are that they are never up to date in videos or text and only document anything in their respective FG forum threads. And not very well at that. Be warned.]

Mini-review
This one has the worst description so far. It's mainly a list of features. It does stuff related to the combat tracker and the tokens on the map. Highlighting, activating, and more. I discovered this one rather late, but it's awesome. It really helps in seeing what's going on. I personally didn't care for the centering of the map when hovering on the combat tracker. Too jumpy for me. Everything can be turned off/on, so that was easily fixed.

Compatibility
No issues encountered.

Official description
This extension allows you to import the contents of a Comma Separated Values(CSV) file into either:

Formatted text control. Importing the CSV into a formatted text control will create it as a formatted table.
Rollable table. Importing into a blank rollable table entry will generate all of the rows and columns for the rollable table.



Mini-review
Import bulk data. I wanted to add quite some data from an old campaign. It was all in a table. Tables in Fantasy Grounds are hard to set up, but easy when used. So use external tooling like this.

Compatibility
No issues expected or encountered.

Official description
GMs have always had far more to do than players. Game prep, game management, keeping all the elements of the story linked coherently and managing a whole world of NPCs. While a virtual tabletop provides so many tools to make these things easier there is still a disproportionate amount of work to be done by the GM. In addition there are things that the players would like to be able to do but are limited by the database limitations.

This extension combines three recent extensions that give both the GM and players a lot more ability to create and track notes on the game world that they are operating in.

This stand-alone extension for Fantasy Grounds allows you to manage polymorphing effects right on your character sheet! Adding new forms you can change into is as simple as dragging and dropping an NPC sheet onto your character sheet and clicking the "Active" button. No additional modules are required —simply add this extension to Fantasy Grounds, and you are set!

This extension unlocks the following functions:

Easily manage polymorph, true polymorph, animals shapes, shapechange, NPC shapechanger, and wild shape all from your character sheet with the click of a button
When activated, a new character sheet is opened automatically with your new shape's features & abilities
The combat tracker updates in real-time with your new form and statistics
Damage is carried back to your true form (as per RAW), and you revert to your true form automatically

Concentration effects are properly coded: casting a polymorphism supported concentration spell ends a previous concentration spell (and ends its effects)

Mini-review
Out of Druid Error, so I haven't really used it's core feature. Having an inventory for my NPC's is good enough for now. There is some competition out there which I'll evaluate when my druid returns. This one does look promising though.

Compatibility
I do expect some issues, since it's a big change. But I haven't encountered any so far.

Official description
This stand-alone extension for Fantasy Grounds allows you to create inventories for maps & non-player characters quickly and easily! No additional modules are required —simply add this extension to Fantasy Grounds, and you are set!

This extension unlocks the following functions:

Give maps unique parcels that can contain any item.
Set lockpick or break DCs on map parcels, so you players can interact with them. Treasure chests displayed on the map with actual loot inside are now a reality.
Give your Non-Player Characters manageable inventories! Set up a mule to carry the party's mundane equipment as they travel, or give that cool BBEG a powerful artifact that is dropped upon death!
Any weapons given to NPCs show up in their actions tab, fully coded!
All map parcels & NPC inventories can be added to the party sheet with a simple click & drag.

Additional perks included in this extension:

Add (and customize) coin weight for your players.

Mini-review
Interactive parcels on the map. Drop loot on death. Be creative and use them as tripwires or doors. Combine with Polymorphism (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?68696-Extensions-mini-reviews&p=604484&viewfull=1#post604484) and your NPC's have an inventory. Very out of the box, and very useful.
I did have to shift my thinking a few times while using this. Is a bag of holding better als a parcel, as part of the inventory (you can put items in items there), or as an NPC? Etc. I ended up with moving all group items to a map parcel "treasure chest" at their home base, and the putting the stuff they want with them in a NPC "small treasure chest". See Combat Groups (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?68696-Extensions-mini-reviews&p=603796&viewfull=1#post603796) for hiding those NPC's. The group inventory is only for recently acquired items, and selling them after they have shifted through there.

Compatibility
Reasonable, but not optimal interaction with Random Treasure Drops. That one creates parcels, so it's fiddling with the same data. I like them both, so I'm glad to see some cooperation between the authors.

Small but useful. If someone is wrestling with a spell, this short cuts quite a bit of discussion. Don't overuse it though. It's about playing the game, not about rule wrestling.

Official description
This extension adds an editable field called Hero Points to CoreRPG based Character Sheets. The name can be edited to any name (eg Luck Points, Favour, Boons, Second Chance) and points can be edited by the player. The player can double click to roll and will receive a simple message to the chat window and the points will be reduced by one.

Mini-review
I'm using this as an addition to the default inspiration. I hand them out as small rewards for certain campaign related events (similar to the Unreal Tournament announcements) which the players can spend when applicable. It allows for a more heroic play style.

Compatibility
No issues encountered.

This extension allows you to have different icons and fonts and font colors for attack info in the chat window. This is especially nice if you play on a TV and need bigger and more colorful info.

Mini-review
The ability to change the icons is nice. I'm not sure about the changed font size and color yet. Yes, it's better readable, but the chat is becoming crowded. Everything is shouting for attention.
Drowbe has created nice alternative icons, available in the same thread (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?56332-Chat-Window-Attack-Rolls-Big-Icons-Fonts-and-Color-Great-for-TV-use), and is building a spin-off. I'm curious what the end result will be.

I tried my best to make it look more modern (within the limitations of FGU) and support most available extensions.

Mini-review
This is a huge undertaking. It's effectively a reskin of Fantasy Grounds, and SirMotte actively tries to keep things compatible with other extensions. It looks very nice, and I'm saving it for a special occasion to introduce to my players. A BBEG for example.

Suprisingly good, considering the scale of the extension.

I'm a bit conflicted about this one. It does it's job, and it's the best we have till SmiteWorks extends it's shop for extensions. But it only works if authors follow a certain format, and report updates. Which of course won't always be the case. Also I get the feeling that the extension isn't updated as much as some of the more proliferate authors need. That said, it does work for quite a few extensions, so I'm happy to use it.

This replaces the SIDEBAR with a Menu button system.

The menu buttons add new features such as the "Books" (quick access to any module loaded with reference manual) and direct access to modules listing.

More real estate, and easier navigation. A must have for those with small screens, but I'm also using it for my 40" monster. I quite like it.

Compatibility
Reasonable, it does complicate things a bit, but authors of other extensions tend to want to support it since it's so useful and commonly used.

Official description
When you apply the extension to a 5E campaign you'll notice a new field on items, npcs and character sheets (under Abilities tab) called "Effect Features".

For items, when you add an effect such as "IFT: ALIGN (evil); AC: 2;" it will be placed on the owner of the item if they equipped the item and are in the combat tracker.

You will also notice the same type of entry for NPCs. It works similar to the above except when you drag/drop the NPC into the combat tracker these effects will be added automatically.

You will also notice the same type of entry for Player characters, under the "Abilities" tab in a section called "Advanced Effects". It works similar to the above except when you drag/drop the PC into the combat tracker these effects will be added automatically.

I'm conflicted about this one. Theoretically, it's brilliant. But I have to define the effects myself. Which I tend to forget. But it's good to have the opportunity. It would be nice if the different effects coding packages out there would incorporate the necessary coding.

Other authors will adjust, since this one is hugely popular.

I took a look, and will convert these to mini-reviews later on. I'm trying to have two different authors per set of reviews. For no good reason perhaps, but for now I want to continue this. So I'll have to do some more reviews first.

There seems to be quite some overlap with other extensions which I'm already using. I'll look them up and compare them. For now it looks that I'm either already covered, or it does things I don't need (yet). I'll revisit this one later on.

Extended Rest needs a rethink, do I want to review extensions for non-WOTC expansions?

This extension enhances and compliments all of the Team Twohy coding packages. Since the coding packages could not include any of the descriptive text for the various spells, powers, traits, or other entries, this extension automates the process of copying the descriptive text over when it is loaded.

Mini-review
This is now a stand alone extension, it was bundled for a while with the relevant modules for Team Twohy. Very useful and a nice workaround for the changed situation in what could and couldn't be included. I assume it works for everything relevant with but a link in the notes, not just Team Twohy's. Will test if I ever get bored ;). Equipped Effects does something similar as part of it's functionality.

Compatibility
Good, though it will probably collide with Equipped Effects.

I created an extension for FGC and FGU to expand on the automation capabilities for tracking HP.

A new option is added to toggle between taking the average or rolling HP when levelling up; per level HP results have been added to the Class and Level window.
A new option has been added to toggle between displaying Wounds or Current Hit Points.
Adjustments to constitution, both permanent and via effect will accordingly adjust HP.
Added a Heal action type to increase maximum HP.

Official description
When you create a shop, you can add items to the shop inventory, and set the number of items available in the shop. If you set the count to -1, there will be an infinite number of items available for purchase. The DM can also set a price markup for the entire shop which scales the purchase price of each item.

Players can browse the shops contents, and add items to the shopping cart. The total price of the items in the shopping cart is automatically calculated and displayed. Players can click "Buy" to add all of the cart items to their inventory, and deduct the price from their currency. The extension does NOT make change, so the player needs to be sure they have enough money to make the purchase.

Mini-review
Create shops, bars, magic emporia, travelling merchants and more. I also use this to keep the group inventory tidied up. I put the items not taken in a pawn shop for a while so they can get them again. It makes the world more alive.

Official description
Colorful Language is an extension for any CoreRPG-based ruleset that adds the ability to configure chat fonts, both for general messages as well as individually for each character and NPC. General font configuration may be accessed by the GM from the chat window radial menu. Character fonts may be configured from the radial menu of the chat icon on the character/NPC sheet. Pairs nicely with Sir Motte's Magnificent Darkness Theme (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?68696-Extensions-mini-reviews&p=606388&viewfull=1#post606388).

Mini-review
This extension looks very useful if one has any artistic talent. I find it hard enough to colour match my clothing, so I'm not redesigning the chat. Until it comes with some sets of defaults, I'm skipping this.

Official description
When it comes to playing 5th Edition D&D, a lot of time is expended moving characters between maps. The Portals extension allows you to define areas on a map that link to other areas on the same map or on different maps. Whenever a PC or NPC steps on a portal, the extension will either prompt the user about moving to the linked location or it will teleport them instantly based on the portal’s configuration. A single portal can link to multiple portals or it can be an exit-only portal making the teleport a one-way trip.

Mini-review
Love it. Create traps, stairways and more. Used it at my first FGU session after switching from FGC: the players couldn't stop teleporting from the ground flour to the next level of the inn.
The changes in FGU are hard to keep up with, but the author persists.

Hi Milmoor, thanks for creating this it is really helpful.
What I would like to see next is a comparison of the 2 great automated extensions (Mad Nomad and SilentRuin) and their associated dependencies. Outside of cost and how they are packaged (books vs type) it would be great to have a good side by side comparison of the functionality since there is a lot in both and difficult to decide.
