As per the title
The lighting effects are there under the presets but when you try the different methods to enable lighting , all that lights up is the error messages , like a chrsitmas tree.

Those presets are not implemented for Savage Worlds yet. If you check the 5.3 beta thread, its coming

Short term solution:
Directly in the Combat Tracker, put this effect (but NO brackets)
LIGHT: 4 Torch
That will do the trick until the updated ruleset is released. You can change the 4 to however many squares you want. The Torch will give it the fall off effect and the flicker.

Thank you , I just read the beta notes a few minutes ago and feel foolish.

No reason to feel foolish. I mean, there are buttons and you just have to push them, right?

I made the same mistake, mostly because I've been running D&D 5e campaigns and the Lighting Effects buttons all work for it, so I just assumed... Having that 5e experience I did know the correct text syntax for the effects, so I just keyed those in the CT. Anyhow, it became apparent quickly that there's a disconnect between core FGU lighting and what's in the SWADE ruleset.
