View Full Version : I can see areas of the map that I haven't been to.

My DM is running Curse of Strahd at the moment.

I can currently see more of the map than I am supposed to. I am the only one that can see this area and my token has never been to the part of the map covered. When the DM looks at the player view he can click on any other player and they don't see the room to the North. When he clicks on me he can also see what I can.

Any suggestions? Is this a bug or does my character now have sonar? A big spoiler just got revealed to me so, if you're a player looking to start Curse of Strahd, perhaps don't look at this.

From the aesthetics this looks like fog of war.

If the campaign started before the 4.1 update, module maps should be reverted and reloaded.
If this is not the case and you can reproduce this behavior it would be the best bet for the DM to upload the campaign with steps to reproduce.

Last night was pretty much a shambles in how LoS and Lighting worked but this particular issue went away once we entered the room and didn't seem to come back. This campaign (and this map) started last week. The screenshot I took is literally what I logged into in Session 2.

Still, we had a bunch of issues in the Durst Family House last night.

The party could, quite frequently, see tiny slivers of rooms, particularly near doors.
Token light was really problematic. Nobody could see token light until we'd closed the map down and it had been reshared.
Moving characters from one floor to another was really hard. The DM had to take our tokens off the map each time and place them back down where they needed to be (is there an easy way for DMs to move characters to any place on the map, even when there are intervening walls and doors etc) each time resetting token light and then closing down the map and resharing it.

All in all, I like what's happening with dynamic lighting and LoS but it felt like there were a lot of kinks to work out. The big issue was being able to detect where secret doors were far too often.

These issues have been reported by several, from what I can see in the forum, so they will probably be fixed soon.
For the second issue, you don't need to close the map down and reshare it, at least in my experience: the DM just needs to right click on the map, then click on "share" again (skip the "close down" part).
For moving characters around ignoring walls and occluders, the DM can hold SHIFT while moving the token around, and that will allow to move it wherever.

We tried with the DM resharing but it didn't work until after we'd closed it first.
The trick with holding shift is very useful, thank you. Can I assume that, whilst moving a token this way, LoS isn't calculated?

That's right, it doesn't calculate LoS or lights until the DM "drops" the token

How do you revert module maps?

How do you revert module maps?

Right click on the map you want to revert in "Images" and select "Revert changes".
If you want to revert all changes to the adventure module, right click the module in "Library" -> "Modules" and select "Revert changes". Be careful, as everything you changed in that module gets reverted. Backup is your friend as always.

That helped a lot! I was having some issues but that seems to have corrected them. Thank you!
