[3.5E] Self targeted effects don't work from the NPC sheet

Ruleset: 3.5E (haven't tested with PF1)
Campaign: Empty
Extensions: None

Steps to reproduce:
1. Give NPC a spellcasting class
2. Create a spell with an effect with the target to "self"
3. Drag NPC into combat tracker
4. Press the effect -> error
5. Dragging the effect manually works

Ahhhh, the 3.5e PhD strikes again.
That happens when you create dozens of NPCs fully effected. I was of course using the NPC not from the CT.
