I just purchase the Monsterous Compendium, MC3. Fired up a test 2E/Classic campaign. I have since created a new Campaign, stock default, and only loaded the Core Rules, PHB, DMG and Monsterous Manual. When I drag an NPC to the combat tracker it throws an error and creates two instances of the NPC. It does not throw an error dragging a PC.
Further, deleting an NPC from the combat tracker also throws an error.
Since I did this with just core rules, I don't think it has anything to do with the Monsterous Compendium DLC. That was meerly the trigger for me to look.
