Hi Smiteworks - I just discovered the very handy "Character Wizard" in the D&D 5E ruleset. Despite having used FG for a bunch of years, I had never known it existed. I only just now found out about it by accident in a Youtube search for something else. Imagine my surprise when I watched the video for this super useful tool. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGFWMv1WsUw) The video, unfortunately, begins with the wizard already on screen and the narrator says absolutely nothing about where it is or how to launch it.

Ummmmm... sorry to be snarky, but maybe you should not start the video at the point where you are already using the Wizard? Perhaps starting with "Here's how to find and launch it" would be a better starting place? Also, maybe let people know it EXISTS? Like, with a button to launch it somewhere visible? Maybe mention this feature somewhere that people can easily notice it instead of (as I am guessing) buried somewhere very deep in the interface? Can I end a sentence with anything besides a question mark?

I mean, I don't like to second guess you guys, but it seems like this is a really handy tool and even a selling point for the software, and again - after using the software for year and years - and learning a lot about it technically like how to script abilities and so on?I mean, I could understand me not noticing something right off the bat, but really - how do you expect people to even know it exists?

You need to go spank your marketing person. Here is a SECOND long video about it directly from Smiteworks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ocyOAhJK08), an interview with the coder who made it, in-depth demonstrations, etc... once again it says everything except how to start it!!!

And for those of you who have your fingers poised to respond with "LOL D00D YOU ARE A NEWB AND SO ST00PID THE TEENSY BUTTON IS RIGHT THERE IN SUBMENU X UNDER DIALOG Y" - or else "D00D DIDN'T YOU READ THE RELEASE NOTES FOR EVERY UPDATE? LOL" Well, the answer to both questions is "no", because I have a busy life and don't have time to get way down in the nuts and bolts of every single game I enjoy, or read endless newsletters and release notes. The important stuff should basically jump out at you, especially new stuff (if this is indeed new with Unity).

Oh, and by the way - how the heck does one open the Character Wizard? Even knowing about it, I still can't find it! Arrrgh... Even if it was originally an extension for testing, why is it not yet part of the main app?

Yeah, I know. If I spend enough time looking I can probably eventually find it. But I shouldn't have to spend all this time on it, especially finding two whole videos dedicated to the topic that still don't answer the most basic question - where is it?

Thanks.

Click the Star icon at the bottom of the Character Selection screen for new characters.
Click the Magnifying Glass next to your Class & Level and click the Lvl Up button on the window that opens for leveling up.

The wizard has only been available for a few months. If you don’t read patch notes then you won’t know about additions to the software when they happen.

To start the wizard click the Characters button and click the star like icon at the bottom right.

It's also not entirely finished yet though functional and has it's own bug thread here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?60435-5E-Character-Wizard-Bug-Reports-(2020)

And though its is available in the live version, I believe it is still considered to be in Beta. Hopefully when they 'go live' they will publicize it more.

Thanks, people, for pointing out where it was. I really think it should be a button in the right-hand sidebar instead of hidden away there, but I guess that's up to the UI people at Smiteworks. Also, it seems like the question of "what does the blue star do?" varies very widely from dialog to dialog, which is a Bad Thing. Ic ons and buttons should remain standardized. Anyways, thanks again. Sorry if I sounded a bit peeved previously. I was very frustrated.

You're not wrong. That thing could pass a DC 40 Stealth check. When I first released it I wanted it to 'fit in' with the rest of the controls, but it seems it fits in a bit too well. You're also right that I should have showed how to start it in that video. I want to put out a video including all the new features but I am still adding a good number that it would be out of date as soon as it went up. Right now I am adding the ability for it to bring in your already known spells as a reference while you pick more during a level up and to bring in your current inventory to add to also when you level up. It's starting to grow beyond the original intent of a guided process to do what the drag and drop does and it's starting to add additional features. If you spot anything that could be improved or bugs let me know here; https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?60435-5E-Character-Wizard-Bug-Reports-(2020)
