Hi guys,

I would really like to add some background ambient sound to my Traveller games, and looking at the forums most people a year or so ago were recommending Syrinscape fed through discord with a collection of virtual audio cables, bots and wot not to facilitate it.

I wonder whether there has been any developments on adding a simple audio option similar to other VTT's. I much prefer FGU as a system, and as i'm not a techie the convoluted way of sharing audio by bots is a bit complex for my pay grade.

Cheers.

I agree, that would be great. I haven't figured out "Syrinscape fed through discord" mods yet. Looks cool, just haven't put the time in to get it running.

Hi, I was wondering you'd checked out using the Syrinscape Online Player as an alternative method? It's facilitated by the Syrinscape Sound and the Syrinscape Chat Links extensions and mods:

https://www.dmsguild.com/product/319720/Fantasy-Grounds-Syrinscape-Sounds-BUNDLE

I use these every game and it works great. It's also very un-technical to get set-up which I'm grateful for!

I hope this helped

Cheers,

Simon

Yep, that's what I have, but just haven't given it the time to get it going. Hopefully it is easy to set up.

Cool. In all honesty the only real problem was getting my players to download the right version of Syrinscape (the online player). Beyond that its was pretty easy for me to set up.

I've just done that actually, got the months free trial so we'll be giving a go in tomorrow nights session. It certainly feels like a premium product and super simple to use, i suppose £8 per month isn't a vast amount of money but its another thing that chips away at ones income.

One great thing to remember about Syrinscape is that any sound sets that are released during your subscription are permanently yours to keep. I was surprised how many sound sets I now own, so if I found myself unable to keep up with my subscription in the future I probably have enough sets to continue on locally without having to purchase more. I wish the FG Art Subscription followed this model, I'd be more inclined to sign up.

Follow Gwydion 's posts, they are the one of the audiophiles always trying new options to get the best sound experience. :)

Presumably this post (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?52469-Sound-Program-Overview)?

Very recently, there is also RPG Sounds (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?65581-RPG-Sounds-A-Free-App-on-Steam).

I was able to set up sound through Discord in about 30 minutes by following this video

This way, I didn't need my players to download or install anything.

There are many options like your mentioned above, depending on your knowledge of audio setups, and if you are going to use your own sounds or pay for them online, such as a service like Syrinscape. FGU has not implemented sound as of now, but I do believe it on their list of things to eventually implement. I doubt we will get this rather soon. Please try to vote or request for features on the new FGU idea informer, as this is the best way to be heard and answered or noted in regards to new features or upcoming.

Best of luck!

Here is what I do:

1. I've gone through Youtube to collect a bunch of different audio tracks using VLC Media Player (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/) and converted them from MP4 to MP3.
2. I'll use Audacity (https://www.audacityteam.org/download/)to strip out clips of sound effects, ambience, or music.
3. I use VoiceMeter (https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/index.htm) to mix in audio to my Discord. Basically I'll combine my Mic audio with the output from VLC.

It took me a couple of Youtube videos to learn how to use VLC, Audacity, and VoiceMeter, but overall it was easy to do. The great thing is that once you take a day or two to pull down audio tracks from Youtube and clip what you like, you'll have a nice library of audio to choose from. I have folders for Ambiance, Music, Effects, and Creature Sounds.

There are also MP3 sound packs you buy from various websites. I've only bought one, but then learned how to download and edit audio from Youtube. If you are going to buy audio packs I would suggest making sure they offer samples before you buy.

Synrinscape through a Discord bot (that you make yourself with a few clicks) was the best method for me. I did Syrinscape with Voicemeeter/virtual cables for a while, but it's not as good as the discord bot version. With the latter, players can control the volume of the ambience individually to their liking without lowering my voice volume. With virtual cables and stuff, the syrinscape audio and my voice are all on one Discord user.

Try RPG sounds, it very similar to syrinscape but has no monthly fee, offers sound packs for about 5 bucks each and the program cost only about 15 bucks on steam. Furthermore, you can use your own sounds, and they even give you a server webaddress for free that you can play your sounds through. I use the new front page to advertise to my players the web address they go to it and thats it, don't have to mess with discord at all. have fun sincerely Aramis. ps. I am not affiliate with this product in any way but I hate paying monthly for sounds when you can do it for free, well almost, you have to buy the program.

You Gms have some feedback from Syrinscape Online?

Is it good as it is adviced?

I am quite skeptical.

The best solution would be to have Syrinscape stream through host of FGU, but it seems this will not be. So I wonder how good is really Syrinscape online.

Most often then ever, I would prefer to stream only background music such as that of spotify, I need more ambient than sound effects.

Syrinscape from my experience have average sound effects and not very good music/ambience. But is my opinion.

I understand that there are ways to solve the music question externally, however considering that the primary competitors of FG have native support of ambient music, I feel this would be a good direction to look next after Dynamic Lighting goes live in full.
