I am trying to adjust the spells that an NPC has.

I have tried to follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4PLP-Y38Qw&t=385s

When I remove the spells they will not repopulate. I have tried doing it just on the NPC sheet both before or after adding the NPC to the Combat Tracker.

The only way I was able to get it to recognize a spell was to drag it manually to the NPC sheet and then add it back to the CT.

This is in a campaign that has no extensions running.

Did something change in the way that spellcasting is parsed since that video?

No. I just tested and everything works as per the video. make sure you have the source of the spells open (PHB etc). Also if you are using any extensions disable them - or test in a new campaign without extensions. Another thing; if the spellcaster has innate as well as cast spells make sure you delete all of the spells. A screenshot of the NPC showing the spellcasting ability might also help to diagnose any issues.

Big thing is to delete all spells, just leave the spell casting traits, then reparse. If you leave some spells, FG will not parse at all.

That must be it. I didn't delete the innate spells. I will test doing it that way.

I can see them now repopulating in the NPC sheet.

Now the odd thing that I see though is that the NPC sheet works, and the NPC already on the CT does now have locations for each of the spells (and if you click on the button to open what spell it is, then it shows. But the line is blank.

What is more odd is that if I add that same NPC again to the CT so there are now 2 on there, all of those lines populate fine.

If the NPC is already on the CT then it won't re-populate spells if you change the NPC in the NPC spell list. NPCs on the CT are copies of the original NPC. So you would delete the NPC from the CT and drag the NPC from the NPC list that has the correctly populated spells.
