NPC Creation - Equivalent 8th Level Dhampir Shadow Monk

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help me, direct me somewhere or give me some tips on how to achieve the above. I am looking to create the above as a mid tier BBEG for my party who are due to finish LMoP and progress on to their next campaign. I can't find the Dhampir as an option as an NPC, does it appear anywhere outside of UA? How do I go about creating a new NPC I understand if I create this like it would a PC it will be overpowered compared to the NPC equivalent.

No, this race only appears in UA as a player race. There's no NPC anywhere. Since this is just a race it doesn't have much else apart from racial traits so you'd need to pick a suitable existing NPC and apply the racial features to that NPC. So if you have a look for a suitable NPC with the CR you are looking for (or maybe a CR of 1 less that you are looking for) and then add into that the racial traits of the Dhampir.

I was looking for a monk to base it on but there doesn't seem to be any within the Monstrous manual or DMS Guide. Are you aware of any?

The MM has the Githerzerai monk, but that is going to have racial traits built in.

I know I ran across some other NPCs that fought with their fists, Might have been in WaterDeep Dragon Heist. But I don't remember what they were called, as well they might have been something I created myself.

Volos and Dragon Heist have a Martial Arts Adapt, CR3.

You could always create it as a PC character and change it's faction to Hostile. Far as the players go, it would look just like any other NPC on the Combat Tracker but would give you the flexibility you might be looking for to add the racial and monk abilities. Just remember to go into the Characters list and take ownership of it, so that if a nosey player goes in they don't open up the character sheet and get an eyeful before you're ready!

There are also Hobgoblin Iron Shadow (Monk) out of Volo's. It's pretty nasty because of Shadow Jaunt.
