Hello,
I have recently been looking at Foundry VTT and one of the reasons it appeals to me is that I live in a remote area and my internet connection is not very fast or reliable. I would like to host a game on FGU but it is not possible if I am the server, however Foundry offers the ability to use a remote host. I am not particularly fluent in networking terminology so I hope I am explaining this properly, but I can host the server on a dedicated server, similar to the way a website is hosted. Foundry VTT is requires a great deal of preparation since it does not offer pre-configured D&D adventure modules and I would prefer to use Fantasy Grounds Unity. Is this possible on FGU?
Thanks

FantasyGrounds doesnt host on your machine, it hosts on Smiteworks cloud.

The cloud is used purely for connection brokering to get round port forwarding issues, there is no hosting of GM activities or data in the cloud. The GM's instance of FG is the server which all communications come to and go out from.
The only option for something like this is to have a version of FGU running in as a server in a cloud solution, and remote desktop to that server - for example, using AWS. Some info on that here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?58731-Hosting-Fantasy-Grounds-from-an-AWS-Server

Oh, then my internet speed need not be any different than if I were connected as a player, correct?
Is this something that has changed with Unity because I remember I used to play an in-person game using 2 computers that were networked with no internet connection.

FGU can still connect multiple computers together locally without using the internet. The local players just connect to the GM computer using it's IP address.

If you do a search you will find several post by users that have set up an AWS server to run FG. Tis would allow you to control FG with a browser connection. I think you get the best performance using an AWS server with a GPU such as the AWS EC2 G4.

Nope. @Jiminimonka is confused what the FGU "cloud" connection brokering does. See my response in post #3 above.

Ah, I stand corrected.
