View Full Version : FGU Bug: Grid Hex Tokens and Distance

I have found this issue works in different rulesets.

1. Grid Distance without Raw Distance selected is miscalculating distances. Raw Distance enabled works correctly.

2. Custom tokens are populating crooked on the map and cannot be readjusted correctly. FGU official tokens populate correctly.

Thank you Smite Works for all your hard work.

Can you provide an example of the custom token?

Thanks,

As requested and thanks for the quick reply.

Oh, i saw that in my starfinder campaign too. I changed the distance value to "astronomical units" --> "AU" and several hexes were counted as two hexes. I thought i made some mistake, but it seems to be a bug then.

I've passed on the grid issue as a bug to our image developer.

For the token, it looks like it's centering for me using the CoreRPG and SFRPG rulesets in both square and hex grids. (see images)
Is there a particular instance that you're not seeing a result that doesn't match the pictures?

Moon Wizard,

For the Token I've tested in both 5E Ruleset and Core RPG. The token works for one type of hex and not the other.

That's by design. The default orientation of the token in the left image is 30 degrees to the right to align with the first "side" of the hex in a clockwise direction to indicate rough facing data. By default the hex grids are set to only allow edge facing.

I believe that it could be overriden in an extension to allow vertex/edge facing, so you could rotate one notch left; but I haven't actually tested that scenario, or needed to have built an extension like that.

Moon Wizard,

Thank you for the explanation. I should've looked closer at the first image I posted. Awesome customer support by the way and thanks for everything you and SmiteWorks do.

Apologies for necro - can't find any recent threads.

Is there a way to have vertical alignment with hex vertices - it just looks goofy at the moment :-(

Yes, just select the vertical hex grid from the Grid Type dropdown.

Assuming you are talking about the tilted orientation of tokens when using hex rows, turn on the option "Token: Facing Indicator" in the token options. This will result in the token being vertically aligned and the facing indicated by a yellow arrow.

Thank you, but it is a map with a pre-existing horizontal hex grid ☹

Thank you, that does work for tokens on the combat tracker, but not where you are using tokens as markers ☹

Thanks, both for getting back so quick – sorry my weirdly specific issues bypassed your excellent suggestions…
Och, I’ve created some tokens transformed by -30 degrees, which has sorted the issue – it does seem like something that could be tweaked, but I suspect there are MANY things before this on peoples’ want list!
As ever, thank you to the community for jumping in <3

Instead of placing the markers as tokens, place them as image stamps, then you can rotate them. Not sure if they will snap to 30deg, but I think so. But, you have a solution already so :)
